Or do what many of us here did and start by selling off the old stuff piling up around the house that you don't really want anymore. See if you can turn that $5k into $6k to invest in stock once you have a better feel for ebay.

It's not an item. It's a company called home business direct and I want to know if they are legit. They claim to work with eBay and amazon as major sellers. Marketing and advertising is all sorted. Your provided with a laptop and suppliers and just have to do the paperwork in between for commission.
Oh great, another business wanting your hard earned $$$ to teach you how to trade on ebay in the most unreliable way possible. It is known as dropshipping and is the fastest way to lose your money and your ebay reputation.
You can learn to sell on ebay by reading the selling section on the site and reading these boards to see how to keep yourself safe from dodgy buyers. If you are unsure of anthing you can ask on the boards and get help from some very experienced sellers and buyers.

It sounds a bit dodgy to me. Not necessarily as in illegal, I wouldn't know how legit the company is. But I think the main ones to benefit from this would be the company, not you.
It sounds to me as if you are looking for a way to make money for yourself, as in 'do the paperwork in between for the commission'.
Yet you'd have to pay $5000 up front for the chance to 'work' for them.
That always rings little warning bells to me. Ask yourself, if this opportunity is such a gold mine, why are they farming it out or why are they just not hiring workers in the usual way?
