Is eBay informing buyers to make a claim for items not recieved

OMG 7 more yesterday!!!

Is anyone who has bought anything from ebay the last month being emailed from ebay notifying them if their item hasn't arrived and can't be verified by tracking to put in a claim regardless if they actually have the item or not?

Over the last 5 years or so of me selling on ebay with over 7,200 sales all over the world, I have had maybe 10 claims from buyers saying their item hasn't arrived. They would message me first too. Not now!

The last couple of weeks, 16 from 18 sales have now gone straight to put in a claim!!

**bleep** is going on ebay?!?!?

We have these 50-cent stickers as a postage option on our website and etsy and about 50% of buyers choose the option on there. But ebay have not as yet provided any mechanism by which to make the option available to their buyers.

You'd better hope they don't Clarry, or the eBay ETA's will be for yesterday.........................

It's a crazy system whereby eBay grabs a % of the postage, and then decides how fast the carriers can deliver the items.

GRRRRR.....................

Re: Is eBay informing buyers to make a claim for items not recieved

Thank you digital*ghost for a possible explanation.

You are right... to explode from maybe 1% claims over 5years to 95% last couple of weeks - something weird is going on!
It's either ebay auto notifying buyers or Aus Post actually not shipping them.

Even though 90% of my items get shipped overseas with stamps and normal mail, I know now that prepaid tracking envelopes/satchels etc from AP is an outright scam and they will not be tracked at all if placed in a street side post box. The only way they will be tracked is if lodged and scanned within a post office.

Re: Is eBay informing buyers to make a claim for items not recieved

I went to have a look at my ebay email addy as I had a purchase that was pick up so thought that if ebay did send notifications out, there might be one for that, but there wasn't.

Maybe it could be because I had already given feedback though.

Perhaps they send reminder ebay notices of some sort to buyers who don't leave feedback?

What I have noticed is ebay makes it very easy for buyers to make a claim of some sort. It is 'in  your face'.

For instance, in the My Ebay section where it shows my purchases, even though I have left positive feedback next to items, there is a really big blue tab that says "Return item".

I have to admit that next to my latest purchase, the pick up where paypal was not used, it says 'contact seller' but the drop down menu has 'I didn't receive it' etc as a choice.

If I were a new buyer, I would assume that using one of those tabs was the official way to make a claim.

It sounds to me as if a lot of your items have been held up somehow.

As others have said, you need to try to extend your handling times so the delivery dates give you a bit of room to move.

I say that because no matter what people think buyers 'should' do, the fact is most look at the estimated dates of arrival or the time frame and start to get a bit anxious if it goes a few days over that.

Re: Is eBay informing buyers to make a claim for items not recieved

I've had several buyers immediately jump to "I didn't receive it" rather than "Contact Seller" - most don't realise that it opens a case and impacts the seller. Never used to happen - if something was delayed, I'd get a message from the buyer.

As to handing time, mine have been 2-3 business days from the start - I usually post next day after purchase whenever possible (except for weekends, obviously), but it gives a little bit of breathing space.

I have just received an email from ebay extolling the virtues of ParcelPoint to make life easier for people to return items to ebay sellers.

Is there really any need to keep encouraging buyers to even want to return items, let alone giving them options to make it easier?

I was waiting for you Lyndal, my first thought was, Lyndal will know about this LOL

I purchase rarely from eBay, but did note that the MBG is flogged to death by eBay regarding a buyer's purchase, it was on my confirmation, and via eBay message.

Almost begging me to cause problems for the poor seller (all for a $12.00 item)

Re: Is eBay informing buyers to make a claim for items not recieved

I only knew about ParcelPoint because ebay sent me a message about it.

I made extensive use of my friend Mr Google and it appears that it is a company that picks up parcels from all sorts of businesses to return them to the seller (not just ebay).

They appear to be associated with Fastways (why am I not surprised?) and pick up from chemists, newsagents, Kennards, convenience stores and anywhere else that the owners have talked into being a ParcelPoint.

So far I have been unable to find any reviews of the service, so I guess we can but wait and see.

Re: Is eBay informing buyers to make a claim for items not recieved

Today I received 2 emails from ebay telling me that if I want to return a purchase for any reason whatever ebay will pay for the return if it is done through ParcelPoint.

I feel so sorry for all the sellers here.....ebay is virtually telling buyers they can buy whatever they like and return it if they don't want it.

Lydnal - the way I see it is that buyers buy something because they want it - they don't usually buy something just to have it delivered and to then have to go to the trouble of returning it to the seller even if ebay are offering free return post.

If a buyer received what they ordered and in their opinion it is as described there is usually no reason for a buyer to want to return an item.

When a buyer opens a request saying they didn't receive an item it doesn't impact the seller at that stage. This is how buyers communicate with sellers these days and is basically the same as sending a message to the seller.

The seller is given three days to respond to the buyer. If the buyer is not satisfied with the sellers response after three days the buyer can ask ebay to step. It is at this stage a seller may be impacted depending on what happens once ebay are asked to step in.
