Ebay has a specific category for Golliwogs under Dolls. There are over 30 listed. Mine was removed as it was reported and removed under the Hateful & Racist policy. Why would they have a specific category for an item if they are only going to remove it because obviously someone who has issues is offended.!!

Wow.
I can't respond to that in any other way. You perhaps might be relieved that I won't make any further attempts to properly discuss the issue with you.

I presume that Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Niggers" has been similarly ba$tardised into something sickeningly PC as well.

i've sold golliwogs on ebay before without a problem.
even had them as a kid and loved them. they were so plush and cuddly.
i had a fat aunt jemima doll too, with a red and white bandana and apron and big gold hoop earrings. i was three and i'll always remember her. i adored that doll.
now i'm told (by whites) that this is offensive to blacks and not p.c. my black friends couldn't care less and just see it as historical.

I've been sitting here trying to remember the name of the little black doll I had. And that was it, Aunt Jemima, thanks for jogging my memory. She was one of my favourite dolls. REd and white spots. We're showing our age. Hasn't affected me in anyway whatsoever, except to make me possibly more tolerant of someone who looks different to me.

also known as mammy dolls. meant to represent black nanny slaves.
i didn't know that as a child nor did i care.
i think the exposure did me good.
i cared for that doll just as i would a friend...of any ethnicity.
mine had polka dots too ๐

You guys are completely missing the point I'm trying to make.
It's not about how you felt about your golliwog, or what some PC crusaders are trying to turn a debate into. It's the reason it came into existence, what it came to represent, and how that can be offensive to others (note I said can, not will).
All I am suggesting is make an attempt to understand why there are a lot of people who do find it offensive, instead of thinking it's silly because you don't find it offensive. Why is that such a bad thing to suggest...to make an attempt to understand others so that you actually have a chance of properly respecting their perspective instead of just your own?

no, i get it may offend some people but not my friends, two of whom are african and more significantly, african american.
to be honest the only stuff that offends me is when african americans are portrayed in a blatantly grotesque manner.

I love looking at gollies for sale, I can't believe eBay would actually take them down! Maybe there was something in the description of the item that caused them to remove the listing? Despite what a lot of people might think, golliwogs are not racist. I managed to buy a golliwog in the UK in 2006, before most of them were removed - that was my first golly and now I have nine or ten all peering at me in my bedroom. I'd like to buy more but its awkward enough as it is when people ask "what are your interests and hobbies?" and I say, "ummm, children's toys..."
