Isnt it all about the law of averages though?
I mean if you list 600 items then you would expect to sell say 100 per month compared to if you only list 300 items than you would expect to sell 50 items right?
Comparing ones sales from last year and saying I am doing so much better this year would only be a triumph if you listed the same amount of items last year right? or am I missing something?

I list roughly 50 items all year round, this time of year I'll sell less than 20 for the month, in summer, I'll sell as much as 80 - 100.
The thread is really just a bit of fun for those who want to participate, its not really a competition and the numbers dont mean anything except to the sellers that post them. Its more just somewhere to say "yay, I'm busy :-D" or "Gee, its quiet :_|"
Just a bit of conversation amongst the questions and problems that are posted on the board.

Exactly! They should rename this thread to 'boast about your montly sales'.
Also, if a person has 1000 auctions going, ofcourse they are going to have 1000 sales - it's weather or not they make a profit on them is another matter as an auction can sell for $1 and that's considered a sale.
But 'Buy-it-now' is different as you're selling the price you want for the profit you want.

There is some much different law going on in eBay than the law of averages. Last year I listed 50 items and sold 16 in the first week. Same time this year I had well over 1,000 items listed and only sold 20. Sales to me seems to be all about eBays "Best Match" search and their formula to determine who is top and who is bottom

Wow, you're lucky to have a 100% sell-thru rate! Well done! ๐

I don't list 'auctions'. Mine are all 'buy it now'
The general rule is - anything will sell for the right price. I was listening to an Economics leacture awhile back and they talked about back in the UK how they had the 'Mad Cow' scare and no-one would buy the meat anymore. The general consensus was ''I'm not eating contaminated meat! How dare they sell it to us!''
The shops then cut their meat prices by half and all their meat had been sold within the day! So it seems for half price, they'll eat contaminated meat!
