What the hell is it lately with bidders pulling out after they have won the item?

Last week I had 4 items up for sell... one person brought it with no problem but now I have 3 other people saying that "they made a mistake" or "Sorry I cannot afford it"

3 out of 4 auctions wasted!! all that time is wasted!

I almost feel like someone is trying to ruin my small business here. Is it common for bigger business to do this to smaller ones as a way to remove them?

please open disputes against these people.  It will send them a message that they can't get away with doing this and if they get enough strikes they will find it very difficult to buy on here.

do you really expect an answer to that?  That is incredibly rude to accuse big businesses here of something you have no proof of.

You're right, it is rude for me to say that but I only said it because that's how I feel at the moment.

Open disputes as you do not know how many others have been through the same thing, add them to your BBL and put in place the blocks to stop non payers that have been issued strikes.

If there was under-bidders contact them and ask if they are still interested and tell them the reason and how long till you can send the 2nd chance offer.

Thanks sparklz,

One lady worked well with me on the issue and that has been fixed now.. but I'm still waiting replies from two others... One I sent a cancellation case to and now I'm just waiting her reply....

The other has not replied to any of my emails yet but I will late a little longer and if she still has not replied after a few more days than I will open an unpaid items case.. 😞 it's sooooo annoying to have this happen...

I don't think you can open a unpaid item case if you already sent a cancelation. I used to do that when I first started [mr nice guy] not anymore as too many after sending a boo-hoo story would not bother clicking on it and I was left paying the ebay fees.

also with a cancelation they can leave feedback [can be negative if there a nutter] but with an unpaid case they cannot leave feedback or it will be automatically removed when you close the case.

take it as a learning curve on what to do in the future. cheers

You have to handle this in professional manner and not allow yourself to get upset.  EBay already sends buyers reminder on 2nd day, so no need to do anything until about day 4 or 5; either another reminder or open dispute.  How ridiculous to say they cannot afford something they bid on.  It is not like your items are hundreds of dollars.

Definitely NEVER send a mutual cancellation unless you are absolutely 100% sure they will click YES.

Here's an example from the buyer's perspective

I bid on an item and won it

Arranged my schedule in order to bid

The item had been for sale for several days

There were several other bidders beside me

I emailed the seller seeking contact details and to arrange pick up at mutually convenient time

No response

Then a response from seller to say they 'couldn't' sell it because of this, that, blah blah.  They asked me to agree to mutual cancellation

I replied I did not want to cancel

Filled in an online form for ebay, explaining I didn't want to cancel

Didn't hear anything for a couple of days.  Then when I looked in My Ebay, there was a small print comment from ebay at the bottom of the item I'd won.  It said that because I had refused to agree to cancel, Ebay itself had undertaken to 'close the case'

I think Ebay does this to create friction and to contribute to the breakdown of civility within society generally

Yes.  A waste of my time.  And it's my suspicion the seller decided not to honour the sale because she didn't get as much as she wanted for that item

Ebay lays down the rules.  And then Ebay breaks those rules

EBay's not all that popular these days

Your case is for a pickup. A small minority of eBay sales.

In general, if the bidder doesn't pay within four days, open a dispute. Four days later, close it.

Nova, Sould shouldn't I open a mutual cancellation ?? Even if the person does not reply all I have to do is close the case and I still get refunded the fee's (that's what ebay says) Or do you mean not to do it because it lets bad bidders get away ??
