Lights turned off and then on.

I've just had an item finish that has had no views in 7 days:

Had to happen.PNG

That same item has automatically re-listed and has had 3 views already within 20 minutes of the re-list:

Light on..PNG

So lights off and now lights on?

Lights turned off and then on.

i often get items relisting and showing 1 view imediatly but no other views all week. some will even show 2 or 3 views within minutes of relisting and no other views all week.

It can occur if buyers have an item saved as a search so as soon as it's listed, they are emailed and it counts as a view.

Throttling has been happening for years. Nothing new.

It does look like one of eBay's famous tactics.

I'm just glad I don't have to do this for a living,(I don't have a lot of hair now so the frustrations of this site would see me with

even less).

I did a general earch for ending soonest a couple of days ago and I gave up after the first twenty pages had 99% of items from

a big book seller,(who had over two and a half million listings in total).

The weird part was that they were rigestered in the US but their listing stated that the items were coming from either the US,UK

or New Zealand.

Davidc is correct.

That happens all the time as he noted.

ive now got an item relisted 2 hours ago showing 24 views! in the past 3 weeks it only had like 4 or 5 per week. now 24 in 2 hours, me thinks the whole views/ watchers thing is carp.

Are 'views' unique members or same member rechecking it?

new listings do get a boost for first day or so.

I do agree EBay do turn the lights on and I would not say they turn them off but Dim them. Having worked online since 1999 I know that online sales can be very temperamental also I think sometimes when we see, what looks like the switch being suddenly put on there may also be other factors. For example I have had 2 very quiet, almost dead, weeks but today I got 2 enquires (no sales sadly yet) about an item I do not have much interest in. One of the people asked me a question I was not sure about so I did a search on goggle and low and behold when the results came up there was my item being advertised in goggle ads. Now I use to buy goggle ads and the right traffic is like gold and can explain a sudden rise in sales.

Now I would bet EBay control some traffic flow and more than likely that is out of my control but there is a chance I may be able to influence some of the other factors and I will be watching to see if I can 🙂 Just my thoughts on the lights on/off syndrome

As well as what kopes said, my understanding is that when you list or relist an item it is checked by various '*departments ?' of eBay and those checks also appear as views & explain why they happen within minutes.
