I've listed the item with payment via paypal but free local pickup. The item has sold and the buyer has now messaged me that they wish for local pickup with COD. Is that how it usually works with local pickups?
Will I be able to leave comments and finalise the order without going through paypal?

Why would you want to accept PP and pay the fee for pick up item? For pick up the best option is CASH ON PICK UP.
COD is AP service.

Thanks! I kinda knew it was a silly question but when i saw the message from ebay that it's against their policy to complete the transaction outside of ebay I started over thinking! ๐

rowee.... just so that you know, with a Pick Up item there is no buyer or seller protection with PayPal, so a waste of a fee to pay that way
COD is Cash on Delivery by Australia Post (an expensive way to send
what you want to do for this transation is Cash on Collection/Pickup.
let your buyer inspect and if necessary test the item before handing over the cash.
after they take it away, you mark as PAID and POSTED (ie Deliveerd/collected) on your my ebay page and leave feedback.

Dealing outside ebay would mean you and the buyer made the cash sale and then mutually cancelled the ebay purchase so you did not pay any FVFs.
How a buyer pays has nothing to do with the ability to leave feedback or anything else.
While you have to offer Paypal for pick up items you should never actually encourage buyers to pay that way and if they do should point out to them that they have no buyer protection.
