Loss of exposure to potential buyers due to eBay delay in listing

Got a bit crabby today.  I listed an item at 3.27PM (as eBay have told me).  Having a look it said I had 2 views (already!!??)   Typed in my listing heading and couldn't find it.  Got onto the 'chat' people and was told it would take up to 12 hours for my listing to appear.  (So where did the 2 views come from???)

The bottom line here is that when it is finally listed (and I have been told it will say it is as of 3.27pm TODAY) I will have lost up to 12 hours of exposure to potential purchasers.  So my 7 days become 6.5 days.  Then probably no one will see my listing at 3.27AM, so in effect I lose another few hours till people wake up and jump on to eBay - end result probably around 6.25 or less days exposure.

Almost ONE day lost out of SEVEN!!!!  I don't believe the playing field is level.

moonlighting, I just clicked on your items for sale to have a look, then I went to the main ebay buying page and put "brenda vase" in search and your vase came up in results.

you are getting prior to the listing being swept up in the general search engines could be from previous buyers who have your items on their Favourite Sellers lists, if they check their saved searches for your items they will show even tho they are not in general search.

..and yes, you are responsible (according to paypal) for the safe / whole arrival of all goods.

Long listing times can be a two edged sword.

If I have something on my Watch List that still has a week to go, I will have a look to see if I can get the same thing sooner or cheaper.

On many occasions I do not bid on the original listing that started me on the hunt for that item or book or whatever.

I am not the only seller who says they cannot be held responsible for what Australia Post do once parcels are in Australia Post control.

being a newbie we are trying to help you and you have to get your items to the buyer not damaged and if you can work out the postage prices so the buyers dont have to contact you

Okay, I'm outa here.  You guys are getting too over the top with your comments.  I thought I made a simple statement about being ripped off on listing time, and you are all throwing bricks and bats everywhere.

If it makes you feel any better my listings never show under 6-7 hours, yet others put listings up and claim they have bids on auctions within ten minutes and have sold a BIN item within five minutes - my excuse is that ebay hate me:^O

It does depend on what you are listing as to how soon it shows up.

Most of mine in the craft section are up and running within a couple of hours whereas a book will take nearer to 8 or more hours.

All sellers are in the same boat when it comes to listing times and you are on a level playing field in this case.

You are correct - this place is obviously not for you.

Give up selling on eBay - if you are that sensitive that you can not take advice when offered, you have no chance of dealing with what buyers may put you through.

I have seen no bricks or bats being thrown by anyone, other than you. X-(

I always search by "ending soonest" that means I hardly ever get to the page 597 to see the newly listed items anyway.  I list my items for 7 days and find that most watchers only appear in the last few days, when I listed auction for 10 days, I found that for the first few days it had only couple of visits, so it really is not important if it takes few hours to become visible. 

One thing that makes me hit the BACK button fast is not having correct weight entered in the listing.  They gave us the postage calculator to show each buyer the postage to their post code, if seller is too lazy to fill it in, why would I trust him to do anything else properly; packing breakables adequately?
