COUNTERFEIT DVDs worth more than $60 million were seized when police raided a house in Marayong and a unit complex in Kings Park yesterday at 3pm.
Police have seized $20 million worth of DVDs following police raids in Sydney's north-west.
Joint investigations by the Australian Taxation office and the New South Wales Police Force has led to a crackdown on a large counterfeit DVD network.
Police say the network, using multiple names and addresses, imported the counterfeit DVDs and repackaged them for sale on online auction sites.

Detectives from Quakers Hill Local Area Command, assisted by officers from Penrith Region Enforcement Squad, executed search warrants at a factory unit at Kings Park and a home in Marayong yesterday (Thursday 4 April 2013).
Inquiries are continuing and investigations are ongoing.

But seriously, DVDs aren't worth the aluminium they're printed on anymore. Shops can barely give them away. Why bother counterfeiting them??

If you watch the video in post #5, the cost to produce the counterfeits are $1.20 each, and they are sold for $22.00. That's a pretty big profit and a big incentive.

Yeah but really...DVDs are being superseded by HD recorders and usb sticks. They're being phased out by new technology just as the video tapes were.

the fact they sold so many and had $20 million worth in stock sort of suggests they are selling

What a wonderful outcome. I can't stand these pirates.
That woman on ACA last night knew exactly what she'd done wrong. Especially since she was telling the others to keep quiet. I hope she gets a long long time. It's unlikely though. Not in this country.
Sadly, the next big seller of these fakes will be just around the corner.

I've watched the ACA video now.... there was a brief mention of some of the discs being blurays (most?), so that would make sense. People aren't buying plain old DVDs any more.

dvd's are still selling by the look of things. If I was going to buy a movie it would be in a dvd.
I find it curious though that some people are still successfully selling VHS movies online.
