Hi there,
Just wondering what your thoughts were on a "Mark Received" function so that sellers have some idea if a customer has ...... well received an item, I know your going to say well they simply leave feedback so that is proof of item being received. Not in all cases, I have a few buyers that haven't left feedback and I would really like to know that they have received the item at least so that I don't have an issue in the future with coming to me months down the track and say they are still waiting for their item.
Anyway my thoughts are that Ebay could make it a compulsory action to be taken by the buyer and if they do not mark as received within say 2 months then they receive a reminder email to do so.
The reason I say make it compulsory is because if not it would just be like feedback and the seller would be left hanging.

bright-byte , you have 38 FBs, and obviously are not really aware how eBay works; it takes time to learn and things are changing, constantly. You are arguing here with people who have been here for years and some (not me 🙂 ) have tens of thousands of transactions, and know all that is to know. Maybe, instead of thinking how to "improve" = complicate eBay, you should spend the time reading the site map, and then you may understand that it is not all that simple. 🙂
The best advice somebody ever gave me was not to worry about unimportant things. The time to worry about item not arriving is when the buyer tells you it has not arrived. Unless that happens, just assume all is well 🙂

I do take your point however you compare Ebay with other sites and as I use quite a number of other sites to sell on I can tell you that this is already in place on a number of them and works quite well. I think we have to agree to disagree on this and again I welcome your intelligent and well thought out input.
Thank you 🙂 But I don't believe I am missing the point. I buy and sell, too. I almost always leave feedback for every transaction - the only exceptions being where, as a buyer, I don't feel a positive is wholly appropriate, but neither is a neutral or negative, and as a seller I obviously don't leave it if the buyer does not complete the transaction.
I know eBay is easy to use, and that a simple click of a button is no great strain on anyone...but that's not all what you're asking for means.
First off, if you read the forums attached to any site in the world, where members can discuss site issues, you will find thousands of posts from disgruntled members over minor changes in functionality that cause them to have to make two clicks to do something that formerly only took one click. And that's from people who are already on site, wanting to do something, but find an extra click an impediment worthy of complaint - I've complained about similar things in the past, because I'm one of those that doesn't like things to be complicated unnecessarily. 😛 It may seem petty, but it's the reality that online users want things quick and simple.
If you look at this proposal from a casual eBayer's perspective, someone who only comes here to buy every now and then, probably uses many other sites to purchase as well, so is comparing the process to other companies and sites, if they bought and received something then got an email out of the blue asking them to please indicate their item was received, even though in the grand scheme of things navigating to eBay, signing in to their account, locating the purchase and clicking a button...do you really think that would encourage further purchase while they're there....or would they perhaps think, sheesh, eBay is so needy, I'm going back to XXXXX where I don't have to bother with this...
I do have to say the the poll seems to favor the idea so far so lets see how it turns out and let others offer debate on the subject.

Super nova i thought this was a discussion, not an argument.
i don't think anyone, least of all a regular poster, can assume anything about any posters selling history based on the ID used to post. They could be a mega seller or not. Does not make their opinion or idea any less important.

Ok lets forget the words force/enforce, mandatory etc. lets just say make it like FB OK
This is meant in a nice way, you contradict yourself saying that FB is important to Sellers then say you are only in it to make money not collect green dots. Those green dots are your reputation and form part of your FB so even if you are just in it for the money they should mean something to you
Of course it means something in the beginning, you build a reputation, you get PS and TRS and then the dots don't matter so much. Honestly, if i spent all my time worrying about it, I would never have time to do any thing else. FYI - I have sold in excess of 700 items - my feedback is 476 and while in a perfect world all buyers who were happy with my product would leave pos (I would be a happy camper), but this is not a perfect word and it doesn't phase me. To answer your above - lets make it like feedback - then I once again re-iterate what a poster said earlier - if we can't get them to leave fb how can we get them to mark received. ?:|

I just wanted to add, as my previous responses obviously didn't indicate, I don't actually think the idea is, in essence, a bad one.
If eBay implemented a 'mark as received' button, I am almost certain I would use it, and I personally wouldn't find it any great imposition, but I feel making it mandatory or even just sending email reminders would make it an imposition for some buyers and anything that could potentially have that affect I would rather do without. If I could, I would stop eBay from sending feedback reminders to my buyers.

Just FYI I have been Buying and selling on Ebay for over 11 years I have also been buying and selling elsewhere for a lot longer than that.

This was not meant to create a heated debate just simply an idea I put out there and no biggy if it doesn't go ahead in fact even if the vote is an outstanding Yes in favor I honestly doubt that Ebay would implement it so whilst I know a lot of people feel very strongly one way or the other lets keep it to the subject and not make it personal.

So that's a vote for YES but not compulsory ?? :^O

Hey byte - certainly eBay has changed a lot, especially in the 18months or so that you were not buying and selling. Some of the idea's they have stump me, others make sense. As I said earlier 'in a perfect world' all the members would be happy with all eBays implementations, but sadly nobody can please all the people all the time. Sorry f you thought Nova was having a go at you, I am sure that was not her intention, she was just pointing out that some times new sellers tend to stress over things that other's have come to accept (whether we like it or not). Hate to admit this, but i was a little addicted to Feedback in the beginning, but after reading here decided to let it take care of itself. Good Luck with your selling and buying.:-)

Sorry OP I might have missed it but how do you feel that it could be made compulsory (enforced) ?
Are you also for compulsory fb for buyers, compulsory marking items as posted when they have been posted and within a certain amount of hrs of having been posted?

More, I'd rather not, but if its there I'll use it...because it would become a loose end and I hate loose ends, unchecked boxes etc. :8}
When I first joined eBay and started buying, I noticed the "I need to leave feedback for X items" note on my page. I didn't know what feedback was, but I did know I wanted the "to do" list to go away. :^O
