An update to selling on eBay

Coming at the end of April, we're introducing updates to improve our online marketplace and make selling easier. Learn more about the changes and what they mean for you below.

What this means for you

We’re updating our subscriptions for sellers who want more flexibility and control or who sell higher volumes.

This includes a new Pro Starter plan subscription for sellers who use advanced selling features, like multi-quantity and multi-variation listings.

Based on your usage of these selling features, we believe you’ll have the best selling experience with a Pro Starter plan.

  • The Pro Starter plan reflects your current selling experience and includes access to advanced selling features, as well as expanded shipping and payout options and additional customer support.
  • This plan has no monthly cost and you will continue to pay final value fees, as you do today.

Free selling

We’re introducing free selling in late April for Australia-based sellers with up to $25,000 in sales annually. Eligible sellers will no longer pay transaction fees when they sell on eBay.com.au, across all categories.

Learn more about selling fees and how your sales are evaluated.

Free selling is intended for sellers with simpler selling needs and does not include access to advanced selling features or scheduled payouts. These sellers will have to buy labels on eBay for eligible items. A Buyer Protection fee will also be added to their listings and paid by the buyer to eBay.

Based on your current selling activity, you'll qualify for free selling.

You don’t need to do anything right now; we’ll confirm your eligibility in late April and explain how you can cancel the Pro Starter plan if you would rather take advantage of free selling. If you choose to cancel, you will lose access to the selling features available in the Pro Starter plan.

Re: More unwanted enhancements coming

You don't send or pay for letters using ebay postage so the price would be converted to parcel and depending on the measurements you entered priced accordingly . Ebay postage is great for those using satchels otherwise stick to the post office.

Re: More unwanted enhancements coming

I did wonder about that. But under the 'free selling' option, you'd have to use it.

You could sell all your items under one username that fit into a satchel for the no fees and anything larger under another and use the post office.

Re: More unwanted enhancements coming

I really don't want to use ebay postage labels at all.

According to this

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/shipping-items/labels-packaging-tips/buying-shipping-labels?id=...

if free selling you don't have to buy labels for envelopes, or if less than $20, or local pickup?

At least that's how I read it??

Re: More unwanted enhancements coming

They are trying to milk a woodlouse!

There’s a German saying about trying to milk a mouse… „Es ist zum Maūsemelken!“

padi, for quite a lot of things, I’ve turned elsewhere for purchases. I still check on eBay for the sake of comparison, and purchase some items on eBay when it works out best (all things taken into consideration). I wouldn’t even consider this slug-brained pustule-ridden notion of a buyer protection fee. Are we living in the 1930s in America with grunting heavies leaning on small shop owners, with eBay taking the “heavy” role and buyers cast as the shop owners?”

”Say”, murmured the heavyset man chewing gum as he nonchalantly patted the telltale outline of a shoulder holster beneath his pin-striped suit. “ it’d be a real shame if somethin’ happened to your item. Some accident, maybe… a hiccup in shipping, a hijack, somethin’ burned… then, poof! It all goes up in smoke or just … vanishes… Yeah, a real shame. What say we protect you for a small consideration? You on board. Hmmm?”

'free selling' specifically excludes letters

Re: More unwanted enhancements coming

Won't be using them. I'll empty my non-store account and keep my store. It will cost me money, but I will make up for it in reduced hassles. And probably more sales.
