My account was restricted by ebay for it's relation to a currently restricted account

I can still buy, but i've been restricted from selling.

What i found strange though was when i called the helpline to question it they said it was okay for me to open up another account and continue selling, can i do that?

No - it's actually expressly against eBay's policies, so whoever told you that clearly doesn't know what they (the policies) are. 

Using other accounts to circumvent restrictions can see all associated accounts permanently banned.

Is your account connected with an account that is currently restricted?

If it is not connected you need to get this sorted out as soon as posible as it could lead to problems in the future if you want to keepbbuying/selling on ebay.

yes! another person in my household has an account that was banned indefinitely.

But i was just very surprised when the customer support representative essentially told me to open a new account and sell again...it didn't seem right.

But, that being said...what do i do now? How can i continue selling.

Move house. And don't associate with the household member. Or get a wireless internet connection, which will show a different IP, but not a different residential address.
