There is a trap involved in this:
If the listing is using the eBay product data, or has a UPC or ISBN in the user entered data, the category eBay assigned to that product via its catalogue can under some circumstances be restored.
I've noticed that if the bulk editor is used then any manually revised categories will revert when submission occurs.
(there could well be other circumstances too)
I have ongoing problems with books as the categories assigned to eBay's catalogue ISBN's are often wildly inaccurate.
(inappropriate classification as textbooks, audio books, atlases etc)
I tried omitting the eBay catalogue data but found that even using the ISBN in the product data was enough to cause reversions of manual revisions after bulk edits.
That made the recent exercise in link modification and script removal an absolute nightmare.
(I'm still not 100% sure everything is correctly categorised)
