I recently sold an item of clothing that the buyer told me when she received it was in not in new condition as I had stated.
I instantly sent a refund without any question or discussion of what I thought
I asked eBay if they would withdraw the Feedback but they will not do that
I am questioning if you do the right thing and get left Negative Feedback why did I give the refund ? Even though I always have and always will.
i have been selling on eBay for over 20 years with 100 percent Positive Feedback so loyalty dose not account ?

It is funny to hear that people have never made a honest mistake in their lives 😊😊😊

Did I sell an old smelly item ?
Checking the feedback left by the buyer to seller she constantly leaves negative or neutral feedback ?

Sellers can't leave negative feedback.
If you properly inspected your items before listing there wouldn't be any undescribed flaws.
The buyer wasn't happy, they gave you a warranted neg.
Move on

But OP does leave false positives, they think non payment is a positive experience

So was it a mistake (three actually) as you said first, or is the buyer a serial neg giver
And if they are, why is that worse than you leaving false positive feedback for non-payers, which only encourages them to continue doing it so they can not pay and collect green ticks?

Hey blueriverrain,
From the date you started this thread, I know I'm a bit late to the party. But I wanted to belatedly offer you some support in this sea of negativity.
I think you made an honest mistake. I was not shocked to the core by this because, gasp, on occasion I make honest mistakes too ... of course, unlike the other posters here who are infallible.
When I list I practically go over my items with a magnifying glass. However, twice this year I had to cancel orders when the handbags I checked thoroughly on listing had issues with zippers when I checked them again before sending. Hey, stuff happens.
The hallmark of a good seller is in how they resolve problems. You issued an immediate refund which, IMO, is all you could be expected to do. I would never have left you negative feedback. Frankly, I'm not crying a river for a buyer who effectively scored a free top which can simply be tossed in the washing machine.
I see from your profile you have over 14,000 sales, yet everyone here is focused on the couple of items which, according to buyers, were not as described. Good grief, if that was a reason to condemn a seller, we'd be back rubbing sticks to start fires. Let's see. In the past year, Bunnings delivered half of my order of shelves and brackets. JB Hi Fi sent the wrong season of a TV series. One of the flatpack bookcases I ordered had holes drilled too shallow so a huge chunk of MDF broke off when I was assembling it. Need I go on?
The point is [almost] everyone makes mistakes. If a seller rectifies the mistake, we're good. I think negative feedback is useful when a seller is willfully deceptive or shows a pattern of carelessness. Perversely, some of the worst sellers are the least concerned about negative feedback except in the unlikely event ebay intervenes. For example, there are still many sellers doing a roaring trade in pirated Taylor Swift CDs with complete immunity. Speaking of which, as Taylor would say, "the haters gonna hate [so] shake it off".

The OP was complaining about a deserved neg. No amount of touchy-feely will get the neg removed.
The OP is complaining about a specific instance, which other members responded to. All the rest is fluff.

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree about whether the neg was "deserved" although I do agree ebay won't remove it as it does not violate their policies.
I don't agree either that all the rest is fluff. A seller who has notched up 14,000 sales with barely a blip on the radar is IMO doing a stellar job. I would think any retailer, online or otherwise, would consider that an admirable record.
I also think a buyer who would neg after receiving a full refund is suffering from a terminal case of first world problems. These days feedback, Google reviews and the like are simply used to air petty grievances. They're not weeding out the truly rogue sellers who will accumulate red dots until ebay finally shuts them down. An hour later they'll reappear under a new ID and carry on as before.

"sellers who will accumulate red dots until ebay finally shuts them down"
Sadly, I doubt eBay shuts down any sellers these days.
A couple of us saw this recently and this time I'll pretend that something may have happened to the seller.
( feedback shows refunds from eBay indicates otherwise)
Current status 15.3 %
354 negs
16,000 items still listed
It's been reported over and over and nothing's been done.

Not sure of what the relevance this has to someone getting a neg because of the inconvenience they caused to a buyer for selling smelly stained items.
But anyhow it would appear Ebay have sadly removed the neg. Not sure why they do that, but lets hide what some sellers do.
