New Seller dashboard - defects - buyer's claims son purchased by mistake.

With the new seller dashboard and its defects rates - how will a cancellation affect me my account in the following circumstances.

Three items up for auction, buyer wins all three.

Now, a week later I received an email from the buyer saying that her son bidded by mistake and can she please cancel.

Previously I would have had no qualms cancelling but I'm curious to know how this would affect me under the new system?

any help appreciated.

so far all cancellations are showing as defects  - there have been many representations to ebay about this, they might change it before August

It specifically says that it is for : (out of stock or sold to someone else), however I have heard the system is not working properly yet and all are being counted. I have cancelled some and the buyer accepted and no defects have occured.

It's interesting also if all three items are out of stock and you cancel (to get the fees back funny enough) all three seperately this would count as 3 defects. However if combined into a single order and then cancel, would this only count as one defect?

Sorry but unless I have made an error or it is a regular repeat buyer I need a copy of a death certificate before I offer a mutual cancellation. Who cares if somebody else from their child to their goldfish has made the bid it is their account and their responsibility.

So then they neg you and open a case with paypal? Assuming they decide to pay up.

And your point is?

Why would I trust them to agree to a mutual cancellation, remember if they refuse it (and anyone stupid enough to let their budgie bid may get it wrong) your fvfs are then payable and they can still leave you feedback.

If they pay up after the dispute is open then I get my money and if they neg me so what, I would rather have a silly red dot on my computer screen than not get the money.

As for Paypal I send nearly everything by a service that qualifies for seller protection and the only person who ever tried it on claiming not as described when it was ended up sending the goods back and I got the funds back from Paypal, they were NARU shortly thereafter.

I had a buyer recently ask to cancel a BIN because her mother bought the item by mistake on  her daughters account ( true story, she voluntarily gave me her mothers ID, she had bought same item under that account, didn't realise she was in daughters account and couldnt' see the purchase so bought another one ) I cancelled under - buyer made a mistake.

It is not showing as a defect (not yet anyway).

The point is that a buyer can do it and the seller be out of pocket for the FVF. You just proved my point, thanks.

If a buyer returns an item I assume it would generate an auto defect also.

There is no doubt that it would be very annoying (amongst other things) to send a mutual cancellation but I think sometimes it might be better. Plus with emails from a buyer requesting cancellation, one would assume would go a long way in getting the FVF back even if they didn't except it.
