New Zealand sellers not eligible for free listings?

I live in New Zealand and tried listing an item on eBay.com.au thinking I would be entitled to "40 free listings per month" - but the site indicated there would be an insertion fee. (I am a casual seller, not a "Store".)

When I queried this with Ebay Support they told me that to be eligible for free insertions you must have an Australian postal address. If you have a New Zealand postal address then it seems eBay.com.au will charge you insertion fees for ALL listings.

This is hardly an incentive for New Zealanders to sell on Ebay.com.au, and there is no local Ebay site for NZ. So much for the Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement. No wonder Kiwis prefer Trademe to Ebay. Smiley Mad

ebay really doesn't care 2 hoots for a Closer Ecomomic Relatationship between the 2 Countries. Ebay is an Empire that writes the rules and everybody has to play  with them.  Don't quote me here, but I think Canada would be in the same boat as NZ.  etc etc. Different Countries.  Someone may know the answer. 🙂  Possibly get an Australian account ????

I wonder if getting a PO box would suffice?

Unlike NZ, Canada does have its own local eBay site (ebay.ca) - in English and in French, with free listings for Canadians:

http://pages.ebay.ca/help/sell/insertion-fee.html#free

It's hardly worth trying to arrange and pay for an Australian PO Box if you're a casual seller based in New Zealand. I suppose I could try using the address of a relative who lives in Australia, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's against eBay's terms and conditions. Even if it were allowed I suspect it would also screw up the shipping when listing items - the site would assume you are resident in Australia and would insist that you use domestic shipping options, etc.

I just looked on the new seller registration form for TadeMe and there is a note at the bottom that says.

"Membership is limited to residents of New Zealand and Australia."

So not too sure about the NZ bank account but it certainly seems you can register to sell if you are an Australian resident.

There may be additional info elsewhere that I have not seen yet.

yep they require a 10 buck up front deposit to your account before you can even start to list then in the payment section they require a NZ bank account and there is no paypal.

I found the welcome email from when I joined. I shortly unjoined.

"Please note: Sellers based in Australia must have a NZ bank account, may not register for Pay Now or become address verified, and may not sell vehicles or property located in Australia."
Happy trading!

Pay now is their equivalent to paypal, we can't use either.
