WOW you are a very patient seller to be able to wait 3 months to maybe sell something and then if nothing sells in the end give it away.

Most sellers on ebay depend on their sales as that's their only source of income.

This seems too obvious, I keep wondering if there is some other magical plan up their sleeve.

Big sellers don't need Ebay, there own site listings are picked by google and other selling searches direct from their websites. That ability is only going to improve. Why would they pay to specifically list on Ebay?

If I see something from say Harvey Normon on Ebay, I would then go down to their store and buy it. Ebay just becomes a cataloge.

If eBay actually took some real initiative, they would be able to offer buyers (and sellers alike) attractive reasons to come here to shop - that's what sites like these need, whether the big players are here or not. (I have read countless comments from people, some sellers, all buyers) who have spoken about what draws them to a site like this instead of the brand or store's own websites, and 100% of the time it's - of course - what the site offers, rather than what the brand or stores offer.

I think they're trying (or tried), but making half-ashed attempts and concentrating on the wrong carrot(s).

Springyzone, I feel the same about make an offer. If it is an option it should be a realistic one. Fair to both buyer and seller. I have done with them as they tended to be primarily a tactic to get views, not a real discount (here I mean as little as 5%, not unreasonable %). I wouldn't buy from a seller that knocked back a decent offer. My favourites are sellers who then send messages with counteroffers around the 1-10 cent mark on items over 100$. It is a tad silly.

With the big players, lurehouse, I haven't been offered any incentives to shop with them directly after eBay buys. It is the independent sellers that tend to do that. By including their own website details and usually a ten percent off code in with the eBay item.

I don't rely on it for 'essentials' such as food etc, but I rely on it for all other expenses. Unfortunately I have two Spaniels that take most of my eBay earnings in the form of vets bills.

I've also heard people say they are re-looking at markets rather than eBay ........ depends where you live though.

I wouldn't be surprised if ebay's future plan is to have ebay as the "corporate" retail seller and have gumtree as the "small guy" retail seller ......... maybe?

Not sure about that one, cathy. I've used gumtree before but it depends on where you live - I live in a small outback town in NSW and selling clothes on there was a nightmare, I've had a lot more success on eBay. Gumtree is better for bigger, heavier items and stuff that you want to keep local.

I'd probably use ASOS Marketplace or something like that if it wasn't for that you have to model all of the clothes, and often the clothes I pick up for myself aren't the right size. So I think ASOS is better for boutiques and vintage lovers.

I dare not try any other platform because I know nothing about them.

I used to be a prolific buyer-now I mainly buy from sellers in the Fbook buy and sell groups, many of whom offer Paypal and postage.

I wouldn't return to selling on ebay if my life depended on it-postage costs are absurd.

Ebay is DEAD!!! Im closing my store at the end of month. Gone from 50 sales a week to 5. Just NOT worth ity anymore. Ebay seems to want to get rid of small sellers in favour of the large retail stores. Hope it backfires on them!!!

Awww I'm sorry to hear that, morgan! I sell clothes too, and your listings are great, except the descriptions are somewhat lacking in information about the item... I'm not saying you need a really long and boring description, but more than a couple of lines really helps.

And yeah, stores aren't really for sellers of clothing like us, cause we just can't sustain them.
