Non-payers

Maybe I'm getting paranoid, but I'm starting to feel as though I'm being deliberately targeted by non-payers. I've had five non-payers in the last month. All buyers with low feedback, I get zero communication from them. One had even paid for 3 other items while my unpaid dispute was open with them. I couldn't hazard a guess as to why they would do something like that deliberately, but it just seems like a weird coincidence that after being a member for 7 years, and never having unpaid items before, that I should get 5 in one month. How can I discourage this? I make my payment conditions very clear, with a friendly tone of course! And I specifically say that if you can't afford to buy please don't bid. Are there trolls on Ebay? Stranger things have happened. Thanks for listening.

I have had quite a few also.  Unfortunately they are part and parcel of on-line selling.  You will always get a few.  As long as you have the necessary blocks in place hopefully they will reduce.

I had to open 4(?) cases in the last 12 months. 3 paid.

My last sale to a 0 fb buyer was yesterday. They paid immediately, and that is not a condition of buying from me.

Maybe it's what you sell? Or your communication or lack thereof?

I was up to fourteen UPI's a couple :-D:-Dweeks ago, and now down to four - Seems like Xmas is coming early for me:-) On ebay, sadly a sale is not a sale until its paid for,  then no dispute raised for 45 days, and then no chargeback and whatever else comes along...:-( I much much much prefer real life shop sales nowadays, customer picks up the item, falls in love with it, pays, walks out, they are happy, I am happy, no stress ๐Ÿ˜„

Why do you demand to receive payment within 48 hours ? You can't enforce it and it may discourage some people from buying from you.

Ebay give buyers at least 4 days to pay.

Even worse in the listing I looked at.

Payment to be made within 24hrs of auction ending/purchase of item.

I don't think 48hrs is an unreasonable time to wait for payment. Any longer seems pointless to me, as a seller AND a buyer. If I commit to buy I do just that and pay asap, why make someone wait? If people want layby they can go to the shops for that. It is spoiling the spirit of ebay to have to chase up these people for payment and then open non payment disputes. They ARE time wasters, their boredom and indecision is not my concern. They either want the item or not. "Commit to buy" is exactly that. And if people don't want to pay within 48 hrs for a purchase then quite frankly I will just go without their business. I do have  better things to do with my time. There are genuine buyers out there who pay in a timely fashion and are communicative, gracious and appreciative.  I love selling and buying on ebay and have to find a way to have my own boundaries against people who will suck the energy out of your day by wasting time and making bad decisions.

Unfortunately for you eBay don't give you taht choice. You can't open a NPB dispute for 4 days and the buyer has a further 4 days after that to pay.

You can set your terms and conditions as payment within 48 hours and refuse (ie return) any payments made after this time without compromising seller compliance as long as YOUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS are clearly stated in the listing.

The Ebay user agreement that members agree to clearly states  (ie you acknowledge and agree that ebay has not control and is not involved in the sale) that ebay has no control over a sellers terms and conditions as long as they operate within policy so the fact that they supply an instrument to open a NPB dispute after 4 days is superflous to any argument of when a seller requires payment. That is up to the terms and conditions that they set

You can require immediate payment (even allowing bank deposit and requiring a copy of the transaction details to verify payment), payment within 6 hours if you want to and employ a debt recovery company to visit your debtor after that period to demand payment

.... does not appear to make much business sense or is that customer friendly ?:|... however that is up to the seller .. it's just like the lady from the gluten free store in Brisvegas that charges non customers $5 if they come, look and enquire but do not buy anything... it is just a condition that the store owner set upon entry to the store

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/450544/20130326/australia-brisbane-store-charging-customers-browsing-fee.htm

A gluten-free, wheat-free store in Australia has come under fire for charging customers A$5 (ยฃ3.50) just for looking at products on display.

Celiac Supplies in Brisbane complained that it had too many people going into the store to find out which products were gluten and wheat-free and then going to buy them elsewhere.

A poster has been put up in the store's window that informs customers of the charge and explains the reasons for it.
