Oh first time sellers have to wait until the buyer is happy because payment is made lol but here’s something really funny I’m not a first time seller care to explain this EBAY ??? I feel consumer affairs coming on real quick

Re: Not happy

You have no feedback in the past year as a seller so eBay sees you as a new seller.

In the T&C's you read before you listed it stated clearly that a hold would be implemented.

And the feedback you've got was a neg !!!!!

Re: Not happy

This is a member to member forum which eBay rarely read

Does not matter if you are a 'first time' seller

On this account your only feedback as a seller is a neg from more than a year ago, so right away eBay consider you a 'new seller'

Even had it been positive feedback, your money would be on hold as a 'new' seller

This buyer has not left you positive

There is no lol and no grounds to go to consumer affairs

Why should the hold on funds that you agreed to, and that apply to all new/infrequent sellers not really apply to you?

Help yourself by reading the selling basics

Because your comments show you do not know basic policies

And, actually read the box that you ticked as 'having read and agreed to', that stuff really does apply

Have you indeed fully completed sign up to Managed Payments and been verified to sell?

Did you upload the tracking to the sale?

Re: Not happy

You are considered a new seller; eBay will also class sellers with many more sales under their belt but no recent sales as “new” sellers, and ditto for those who have only sold the odd item now and then.

The holds will apply until your selling activity is both regular and recent, as a risk mitigation measure. It’s part of the T&Cs of eBay’s Managed Payments.

At least new sellers who are selling regularly can be assured that they’ll no longer be subject to holds once they reach the appropriate threshold. For occasional sellers, it’s not that simple because their selling activity will never be regular and sufficiently frequent, so count your blessings…

Re: Not happy

the 30-day hold doesn't just apply to first time sellers.  I would have a 30-day hold on payment on all 3 of my eBay accounts despite having many sales on each.

It's in place to prevent fraud.

It's in place to stop hijacked accounts listing high priced items and scamming buyers.

It's in place, it's not kept secret, and sellers agree to it when listing their items.

Please come back and let us know how NSW Consumer Affairs rules on this.  I would be genuinely interested to know.

Don't like it . . . go elsewhere.

Re: Not happy

Please contact eBay directly with your questions. Nobody here will forward them on your behalf.

As you are fully aware, holds apply for all new/infrequent sellers. The simple fact that you agreed to said hold makes your hollow threats redundant.

Don't bother wasting your time.

I want taathe-28 to complain to Consumer Affairs.

Many posters come here full of bluster, threatening to contact Consumer Affairs, ASIC, ACCC, ACA, or to start a class-action against eBay.

I say encourage them to do so.  Dare them to do so.  Double dare them!

In the OP's case, we know that CA would do nothing but support eBay's actions as they provide a level of protection for buyers i.e. consumers.

taathe-28, don't listen to lezned, go ahead and complain to CA, I dare you!

Re: Not happy

I don't

Wasting the time of all of the above when genuine people have a genuine need to contact them

Not just because someone, for some reason thinks the rules don't apply to them

Especially given their only feedback as a seller is a neg for failing to honour the sale they made, and especially when they are complaining the buyer in this case is being protected by eBay's policy

I'd like you to explain it.

All the feedback for you on this account shows you as buyer, except for one sale over a year ago.

The hold on funds is not for people selling items for literally the first time. It is for any sellers without a recent history of regular sales. Even if you sell 3 or 4 things over the coming months, your money will probably still have a hold on it.

I can't see why you are saying ebay is not protecting the seller, because ebay doesn't keep those funds  forever. It is only a 30 day hold, then the money is yours (as long as you are properly signed up for managed payments).

It's not really about waiting till the buyer is happy as such, it is about ebay covering its own back and it needs to. Ebay, in case you had not noticed, has a money back guarantee. It means if something goes wrong and if the item is faulty or if it doesn't arrive, ebay guarantees that the buyer will be refunded if they open a claim.

So let's go back to your one and only sale, that I can see. A buyer paid $600 for tickets which they say they never received. I truly hope they opened a claim against you as that is a lot of money to lose.

Now, had ebay forwarded you the money immediately, you could potentially have closed your account and taken off with the money. Ebay may have been able to retrieve it eventually through legal channels but not without a hassle. In the meantime though, they would have needed to refund the buyer out of their own coffers. That isn't something any business wants to do unnecessarily.

But by keeping that money on hold for 30 days, if there is a problem & the buyer opens a claim, then the money on hold is  simply refunded.

And yes, the money hold is 30 days because even if a buyer has received the item, they still have 30 days in which to open a claim of some sort-faulty item, not as described and so on.

You'll eventually get your money, just chill out till then.

The feedback you've left for the buyer does you no favours at all.

It's almost a positive negative.

At the very least it could be removed as "innapropriate or irrelevant".

You'd better hope that the buyer is experienced enough not to take offence and report it,  because if they do and it's removed , you'll receive  a defect against your name.
