After all the recent changes to FVFs and listing fees, I’ve come to the decision to open a store. I think the economics of my doing so are marginal but on the other hand I won’t have to worry about how many listings I create or renew each week, etc. Plus I will be able to put on an out-of-office message if necessary.
As I understand it when I open the store all my current listings will automatically transfer over. Will that include my drafts and ended listings?
Is there anything else I need to be aware? I was caught out badly with the limited-monthly-listing changes and so feel the need to get second opinions.
Anyhow as I understand it I can withdraw at any time. Presumably the reverse process re my listings would then occur.
Many thanks to the insightful patient people who respond to my queries. j

This is a good question. If I have 400 items listed and I cancel my store, does that mean I instantly get 360 insertion fees because they all transfer back to an account with a 40 per month limit, or does that limit only kick back in the following month? Unless someone definitely knows otherwise, I would presume the former, and end all but 40 of them if I decided to switch back.
(I wonder how muchof a windfall ebay gets from people forgetting about compulsory GTC on listings. Someone on this board - was it you? - mentioned getting hit with hundreds of dollars in insertion fees one month , possibly from forgetting about a whole lot of $1 max fvf's rolling over.)

I also forgot to end my listings before they clicked over and got slugged. So I decided it was time to open a store....and I have to say that I have been selling a lot of stuff since I changed to a store. It's only been a week and I don't know if it just my imagination, but things seem to be on the up and up

I list as BIN and I'm able to add Make an Offer. I believe if you list as an auction you can't add a Make an Offer option

tax office automatically sees a store as a commercial venture so make sure any sales over $10000 is reported to them or you will get roasted, actually ebay will also do this for you as the tax office is always in contact with them and how much people are earning on ebay. With a store you enter the realm of not a hobby but a business-see ATO website for details

Stores are good. You don't have too much to lose, and if you don't like it you can bow out. We're not talking life-savings types of financial investments/risks, which is great.
I found I had more sales when I had a store. I'm considering re-opening mine. I listened to the advice of someone on here (whose name I won't mention) that made me feel foolish for still having one, so I closed it, and watched my sales promptly dip to zero. (Thanks, Ebay person!) Even though I wasn't selling that much it was more than when I closed my store! So lesson learnt - do what you think is best.
Anyway enough with my sob story. Wishing you lots of luck and many sales!!!

* Bulk phantom edits can refresh listings in searches. Ebay CS reps do this from time to time to help when people have problems, so it is definately true.
