Hi all,
I am a little confused about the order cancellation process. I have looked at a few threads but have not found an exact answer for this situation.
I sold an item to a buyer. The buyer called me and said he did not want the item anymore. He did not send payment and I did not send the item. So I canceled the order. Now I am waiting for him to accept the cancellation. However I have not been able to contact him and I am worried he will forget to accept the cancellation.
Am I still eligible for a refund of my final value fees? Can he still leave feedback?
Thanks for any information.

if he chooses to ignore your request, after 4 days you can then instead open an unpiad item dispute in order to get your fees back

Thanks for the quick response. So the only way to get the fees back is if the buyer accepts the request or if I open a dispute - is that right?
How long does the buyer have to accept the cancellation?

unfortunately you did a cansellation.
better in these cases is to wait 4 days from time of sale, then open an item not paid for dispute.
then 4 days later close the dispute.
you get your fees back and buyer usually gets a strike against them.
then add the buyer to your banned bidder list. dont want them making a purchase just so they can give you a negative feedback.
you can set up an automatic unpaid item dispute in your selling account so you dont have to do anything. ebay does it all.

Yes, I realise that now and I will do it differently in the future.
But for now, how long does the buyer have to accept the cancellation? If he accepts it in the future will the fees be refunded?

Do not open an unpaid dispute. The buyer has let you know he wants to cancel.
If you used the proper reason "buyer requested cancellation" , it doesn't seem to matter if he ticks or not.
Don't worry if the automated response in ebay says, we are waiting to see if the buyer confirms refund, or similar, they put that in even if it is not paid.
In a while, it will be cancelled automatically - I think it might be 7 days - and you will get your final fees back. But yes, he can still leave feedback.

Thanks for the info. This answers my question.
However I actually selected the wrong cancellation option and chose "item no longer available". Does that make a difference?

you bet your bippy - ebay hates that.
Did the buyer request a cancellation by email, so that you have something to show ebay?

No, he told me over the phone and I just cancelled it while I was speaking to him. I guess it's my fault for not paying attention to the option I was selecting. Do I just have to hope that he accepts the cancellation himself?

cancellations will take 10 days to expire if the buyer does not respond, and at that stage you will get your fees back. However you will also get a defect for selecting out of stock instead of buyer requested cancellation, so get onto eBay now and see if they can change the reason for cancellatioon.
