This hasn't happened to me, but I was just reading through some threads and was wondering....
Buyer wins an item for sale with option of Cash Pickup only eg: a couch
Buyer goes to get the couch, but for whatever reason, doesn't take it after inspecting it (maybe it has a rip or something)
Buyer walks away.
But......can the seller open an unpaid item dispute and ultimately ping the buyer with a strike?
Technically the buyer has not paid and nobody can prove that the buyer inspected the item and declined it.

Very interesting. So, if I'm buying an electrical item (like a DVD player) from a seller in the same city as me, it would be better to pay an extra $10 to have them deliver it through Australia Post since I'll get protection if the device conks out the next day.

now you are asking about warranty. If the DVD player works the first day, and conks out the next day, there may be no PayPal buyer protection. PayPal buyer protection is not a warranty.
If the seller does not offer postage, and you pay by PayPal, you will not be covered unless the seller invoices you for item cost and postage.

Hey Kopes, maybe one of us should ring one of the CS supervisors and find out the truth about this grey area..........

Yes, and eBay will not interfere with the UPI dispute, either, (as far as I know, that's under any circumstances - say for example a seller issues a new invoice with astronomical postage after the sale which the buyer obviously refuses to pay, so the seller opens a UPI - eBay can clearly see the history right here on the site, but they won't stop or end the UPI - the buyer can then appeal the eventual strike if they wish.

that's what happened to me on another ID, which is why they removed my non-payer strike.

I remember that, so totally nabbed your real-life experience that's what I based the example on 😛 and pretty much why I feel fairly confident in saying eBay won't interfere with a UPI even when it's crystal clear the seller is being unfair, if not outright dodgy. 😞

in my case, the seller sent a cancellation request which I declined as I was still interested in buying the item. Then they opened an UPI case which ran its course because the only way to end the case was for me to pay, or for the seller to close it because they had received payment.
I know there are board posters who will say that a seller can not open an UnPaid Item case if they had previously sent a cancellation, but it can happen, I still have all the eBay emails and eBay messages from my bad transaction.

At the risk of once again prodding my nose into something that I clearly don't know as much about as I would like...
...I thought it was that an UPI case couldn't be turned into a Cancellation Request - not the other way around.
