PP message regarding IRS taxation - you need to provide your Aus Tax ID.

Anybody else get an email today from Paypal asking you to confirm whether or not you are a US citizen for taxation purposes?

For anyone who doesn't log on to PP regularly, please check the message as PP will restrict your account if you don't confirm either way. I haven't gone through all the steps yet but I think you need to provide your Australian Tax Number.

I'm not sure what the timeframe for confirmation is.

checked on my PP account and see nothing.

try doing a google search using the title of the email you recieved.

Hi, jfmgray, yes it's legit.

There are no links to click on the email and when I log into PP it shows an alert with the message.

It may not have been sent to everybody though.

I've not received an email from PP. I was logged into my account at about 8am and there were no messages.

The message should have been sent to everybody but it does not affect Australian sellers other than to confirm that they are not US citizens.

If you don't confirm that you are not a US citizen then your PP account may be restricted.

It is nothing more than what already happens here where your details are sent to the ATO if you sell more than the qualifying amount.

Australians do NOT send their TFN....they only need to confirm that they are not US citizens.
