Hello,
Just sold something for $608.40 and buyer wants to pay with pay pal, how much will the fee be on this? I've been through the 'Fees' area and can't make head nor tail of it all. Any idea? Thanks.

Gee, thats interesting, I just sold a guitar for $590 and got charged $46 (and no, I did not do any listing upgrades)

$46.61 would be the 7.9% ebay fee, any Paypal fee would be on top of that at 2.4% of the total payment + 30c
You say the ebay calculator is inaccurate, what do you base that on? As long as you put the correct information in it will give each buyer the exact cost to their postcode. I have never known it to be wrong except perhaps for a few days after their is a change in AP prices.

The $46 is the Final Value Fee for the $590 sale price. It is not a paypal fee, which will be 2.4%+30cents if your buyer pays that way.

So, the PP fee is not just taken from the postage it's from the item price too? I thought it was just from the postage.

I don't find fees interesting. Final-value-fees on a $590 sale would be $46.61. Should be no surprise in that because it is simply 7.9% of the final price. This is the fee without listing upgrades.
The PayPal fee on a $590 payment would be $14.46. If the guitar has a postage or freight charge then the PayPal fee would be more than $14.46.

Q. If you are getting hundreds of dollars for your items do you really think that buyers would have bid so high it they did not know they could have buyer protection?
A Yes, I have sold items online via auction and privately for a variety of prices well before the existence of PAYPAL or PAYMATE and never had a problem
Q. There may also be buyers who do not have that much ready cash so can only bid if they can use a credit card.
A. Since when is any individuals financial position the problem of a seller and why should the seller wear the cost of that persons payment method?
Q. If you don't want to use Paypal then don't, use Paymate and lose buyers hand over fist.
A. Sellers should not be forced to accept either, they should be free to choose whatever payment method they like. The buyer can make up their own mind if they want to bid or not. And from personal experience in recent sales, 80% of the buyers paid by direct deposit when asked to.
Q. If it is a pick up item then there is a very easy way of avoiding Paypal payments.
A. Would you travel 500-1500 km to pick up an item?
which I am not going to explain yet again on a zombie thread!
OK, see ya 😛

PP fee is for money transfer; it is a percentage of what ever amount is transferred. Nothing to do with postage, handling or cost of the item.
