Hi, I recently sold an item on ebay, the buyer paid $200. I posted the item along with two other ebay buys. The other two arrived at their destination no problem but the item mentioned above did not. The buyer contacted me to say they had raised a dispute with Paypal. I contacted PP and told them I had the receipt showing date, time, cost and postcode where item was delivered to. PP said no problem you will be covered under sellers protection just download a copy of the receipt to us via the resolution centre. I did this, I have today received notification from PP to say they found in favour of the buyer. Now I understand I should have posted it registered, but surely there must be something I can do, I have lost the item, the postage and been charged sellers fees and yet the buyer only had to say they did not receive the item, how could they provide proof of not receiving something ??, surely we could all do that. Thank you

I can only hope that posters stop encouraging new OPs to pursue compensation and/or continue to send goods of value in an inappropriate manner - on the basis of this alleged loophole.
I know right, what a terrible world it must be where others are assisted with understanding their statutory rights and obligations.
By the way you don't have to keep bolding, italicising and parenthesising the word alleged, I already know you think I'm a liar :^O

BIA - please correct me if I am wrong but I thought AP no longer provided the postcode on the receipts.
I use eparcel so don't lodge my parcels over the counter but I thought I had heard or read somewhere that postcodes no longer show on the till receipt from AP.

Fair enough. That's your take.
Until a few more accurate details are provided I will remain skeptical.
I bold alleged to discourage others from trying to use info in post to "take advantage" of others.

Hi Jen, postcodes are still printed at my PO, I can only assume it's the same for others as well but I've been wrong plenty of times before.

D'oh, that didn't turn out quite like I expected. Image fail! You'll just have to take my word for it, the postcodes are there :^O

That's fine, I'm happy to agree to disagree (as we've done in the past!).
For the record if any of my unregistered parcels were to go missing I would refund as well (I register most though), but I don't think sellers should be held to a higher standard than the law requires, and of course the same goes for buyers.

BIA - thanks for that. I thought I had heard that they were updating the computer program and removing postcodes from the receipts but I might be wrong.
With all the changes going on at AP anything is possible these days.

Cool BIA
Thats good to hear re you refunding missing parcels, I do that too.
For the record, I don't think sellers should be held to a higher standard than is "reasonable" under the circumstances, and consistent with making ebay a safer trading place for all, whether that is accurately captured in legislation or not.
OP for what its worth, my commonsense indicates that sending goods valued $200 unregistered without insurance is just foolishness IMO, and serves to lower buyer confidence (and spending) and does other sellers and ebay reputation a great disservice in relation to safe trading reputation.

From memory that did actually happen briefly a while ago, but there was such an uproar about it that they went back to including the postcodes. I remember several posts about it on the forum, anyway.
BIA - you can click to open the attachment and view the full size version of the image you uploaded (the > next to the paperclip displays the option to view full size), the postcodes are very clear to see. I 'd say they do it that way so it's possible to upload large files without taking up too much room on-screen.

Yep, I can see a number of postcodes on that receipt.
I still have receipts with postcode showing, and I post from country Vic, or I cross the river and post from country NSW
