Sold a large wall unit for pickup only $850 - buyer sent courier to pickup.
He received and then opened a dispute for not as described due to apparent scratches etc (50 year old unit with scratches, dents etc mentioned in listing).
He demands a $350 refund or we pay the courier costs both ways for him to return the unit.
I was going to escalate it to a Paypal dispute but was wary of how the new Paypal pickup laws work.
I have no faith in Paypal seeing common sense at all.
Anyone had a recent case?

If.a dispute has been opened via PayPal he cannot then open a dispute via eBay. It's one or the other. Plus as mentioned, there is no MBG on pick up items via eBay.

I did try to get the feedback removed but Ebay said no.
He has now put in an appeal with Paypal which makes no sense as he is the one who closed the case in the first place.

I wouldn't worry about any appeal. Afterall, he can't appeal his own decision to close the dispute. He certainly seems like a complete numpty! I would say he's determined one way or another to force you to pay return shipping costs. Just ignore him and he'll go away. I'd be very surprised if PayPal let any appeal go through given it was the buyer that closed the dispute, not PayPal. Let me guess, lower feedback buyer?

He has a few hundred feedback so should know what he's doing.
He actually made 3 offers under another account which I declined and then made this offer with his wifes account which I accepted.
He sells vintage Danish furniture so assume he might have planned all along to get the item and then try to get a part refund to get the price down to his original offers.
I have noticed a large increase in the last few years of buyers requesting part refunds. It is a strategy they use to get better price.
Ebay need to add a feedback score that highlights how many part of full refunds a buyer has received.
I quickly scroll through buyers feedbacks to see how many references to refunds and missing items are mentioned but should be an easier way.
This guy has quite a few mentions of refunds & helpful sellers fixing problems so guess he tries it quite a bit.

It would be interesting to see if he lists the item at a later date and what price he puts on it. It makes me angry that nothing is done to buyers who get so many refunds, especially when they are selling the items they bought. Being buyers, they can do no wrong in eBay's eyes so can take sellers for a ride and nothing happens.
This is one of the reasons I don't leave feedback straight away. I want to be able to leave factual feedback and if it was for something where a refund was issued, I want it on their feedback so there is a record of it. I'd also add their username to the feedback for others to see. That way others can see if they have a history of a lot of refunds and use that as evidence if they try to pull that stunt on someone else.

Some seem to also have been NARU'd after others saw their neg leaving or a large number of refunds in
their feedback history,
