Why does Ebay require personal information like Drivers licence number or passport number and date of birth. That has NEVER been a requirement for the sixteen years I have been a member. This seems highly irregular. They have stopped me from buying and/or selling until I provide such personal information. There are plenty of hackers out there and if they hacked this info your identity would be at risk.

eBay do not read here, you will need to contact them rather than abuse other members
Where did you read that you cannot BUY using PayPal?
Shop wherever you choose, eBay are not going to care, or notice

I had a long term seller want to buy an item from me and he said the system wouldn't let him unless he provided more ID. I tried a few different things but he could not buy the item. I got onto chat about another issue but while I had them I asked why this user couldn't buy from me and the answer was that he had issues with his account and had to contact ebay.
On a different sale it happened again. This buyer went on to provide further ID and the sale then proceeded, so yes it happened to buyers as well. It's only started since managed payments came in but the 18 years prior I had no problems.

Good on you noxid100 for having your say because this is also what this forum's for. Don't be put off by those who try and say that you shouldn't. And your post could be seen as a barometer. I certainly disagree with the excessive info that is now being requested.
Keep the faith.

If you disagree with the information requested there is one simple solution, close your account. Simple really.

I've been an ebay member for many years. Can't recall exactly what proof if ID I provided all those years ago but I am fairly sure I didn't provide driver's licence details. I have not been asked since then to provide any extra details but I have been a buyer only now for a long time.
At the moment, my account is working as it always has. If I buy something, I just pay with paypal without a problem. (Touch wood!)
Does anyone know if there is some change coming (for buyers), or do the extra details only have to be given for managed payments, which would apply to sellers?

Yes, certainly do go right ahead and abuse members for what eBay do
NO, that is not what this forum is for, but certainly no surprise someone such as yourself cheers on those who do it

What the forum is also for 4C is responding to other members questions which I did to you, giving you the important update to my second GSP delivery in the thread below.

OK sandypepples? I can't see where noxid100 is abusing anyone. This person is just expressing their view with . . . . .
"no thanks. there are other large retailers I can purchase things from without needing to hand over my personal details."
Well, nothing wrong in that! Free world, free country and free speech! That's not abuse!

Ebay's loss is Amazon's gain.

Amazon's gain is sellers' loss.
They charge more, compete directly with their sellers, have more restrictive rules than eBay and will require the same information from sellers to comply with Government regulations.
