Postage in multiple quantity listings

Could somebody please advise me that when I'm selling multiples of a specific item listed with separate postage, how do I set my postage rules so that when somebody orders more than one item, the postage amount doesn't multiply by the same number? IOW, I want the postage to remain the same regardless of the quantity sold.

Re: Postage in multiple quantity listings

Do you mean within the one listing or over several different listings?

If just withing the one listing in the postage section next to the original cost there is a box that says X amount for additional items just put 0.00

It's a single listing with multiple quantities available, harley. I saw that box but didn't realise that's what it would do. Thanks for that. 🙂

Actually, I'd sooner list as "free postage" with additional items costing a slightly lower unit price but I couldn't find any way to do that.

For example, say I want one item to cost $5.60 with "free postage" but any additional units purchased to cost only $4 extra for each one, do you know if that can be done? I looked for ages but couldn't find any way to make that happen, although that doesn't mean it's not possible.

Technically possible (in some categories), but a little more convoluted and restrictive than a reduced price for any amount of additional items - that is, the only way to do that is via listing variations for quantity (if variations are possible in the category), and then having quantity as variations (you can't name it quantity, though - you can use a variation name like QTY, Pieces etc).

For example, I have listings that let buyers choose from pre-set quantities, all the same postage but with a lower unit price for the higher quantities (eg $5 for 5, $8 for 10).

Thanks for your input, DG. It hadn't occurred to to look at variations for specific quantities but that's certainly worth considering, assuming the category allows it. Your help is appreciated.

Re: Postage in multiple quantity listings

If you offer free postage and you're prepared to offer subsequent purchases of the same item for a lower price, would it work to say for every four they buy you'll throw in an extra one for free?

This might be enough of an incentive for them to buy four instead of only two or three, and if they do only buy two or three you've gained a little extra cash.

Re: Postage in multiple quantity listings

The problem with getting too clever is that most people simply don't read the listings properly. I just need them to know that they will only be paying one postage cost, regardless of the number of items purchased, and it's just too convoluted with a "free postage" listing unfortunately. Nevertheless, I appreciate the suggestion.

There's also somewhere that you can cap the postage at a specific amount, regardless of which items they buy and how many, but I can't remember whether it's just for stores or everyone. It'll be somewhere in your preferences under setting up rules for postage (if it's possible).

I think I might just go with DG's suggestion and abandon the idea of listing with 'free postage' altogether. Much easier that way.

Hey just a suggestion - what about listing your items for $4 with $1.6 postage and additional items shipping free?
