Postage rip off-Post office ripping me/customers off

If there is an Australia Post rep out there then can you please explain to me why Aust Post is ripping people off with postage cost as I have been ripped off many times now and all I get for an answer is sorry but you are wrong. For example I have just been ripped off today,I went and posted a letter with registered postage and it weighs 35 grams and when the postal worker placed it on the scales it came up as 246 grams which she then charged me $1.40 instead of $0.70 **bleep**???????.The letter did not weigh 1/4 of a kilo! The scales are totally out of wack and the post office knows this and I am sick and tired of being ripped off.I remember years ago when Coles in my local area tampered with their scales to make things weigh more and they were caught and fined for it,I have a feeling that this is what is happening with my local post office?

I think that I might have to carry my own scales with me when I go to the post office from now on.

I don't mind paying for postage as long as I am charged the correct costs but to be totally ripped off like this is just very unfair.

I would have thought it would be an operational requirement that the scales they use are calibrated each year.

I would ask to see their calibration certificate.

There should be a calibration sticker attached to the side of the instrument.

Something surely doesnt seem right with this gross an error. That is like 8-times in error.

I think I will need to change post ofices.I have been posting for a long time at this post office and this has been happening the past few months. The issue wasn't with the thickness of the letter as it was under 5mm,it was the weight of it that I was left scratching my head over.I could have argued till the cows came home and I still would have been told no sorry but you're incorrect.

Awh well I have learn't my lesson I think and I need to move onto another post office.

But even at the weight of 246grams she should have charged you $2.10 (3x stamps) because $1.40  (2-stamps) covers only up to 125grams for large letter. It's 3-stamps for up to 250grams.

So this sounds really fishy!

A big difference indeed and this isn't the first time I have complained but nothing seems to get resolved.Yes it is a franchised post office.

It's funny though because if you held the letter in your hand you could feel the weight of it and it weighed like a cherry tomato and not like a few potatoes and I asked the worker that surely she could see and feel it doesn't weigh as much as the scales were showing. Her reply was I'm sorry but I have to go by what it says on the scales.

Well if the envelope was under 5mm thick then it is classified as a small letter.

Then it can weigh up to 250grams and the charge is fixed at 70-cents.

A small letter is:
โ€ข no larger than 130mm x 240mm
โ€ข no thicker than 5mm
โ€ข no heavier than 250g.

So this LPO worker was wrong on so many levels.

A large letter is:
โ€ข rectangular in shape

โ€ข no larger than 260mm x 360mm

โ€ข no heavier than 500g
โ€ข not a small letter.

Then the cost varies depending on the weight.

Re: Postage rip off-Post office ripping me/customers off

I already had a $0.70 stamp on it as I thought that it would only need the 1 stamp and an extra $3.50 for registered but she did put another 2 stamps on it and that's what I was complaining about as it didn't weigh enough for 3 stamps.

An update I decided to report this matter to Centre Management at the complex and they told me that the post office has had a number of complaints regarding this matter and it is being looked into.WOW in the mean time lets all get ripped off.
