I recently sold 12 sets of doll house gear. Not long after I listed them a member contacted me to ask if I'd end the listings and sell to her instead for an unstated 'good' price. I said I wanted to test the market. I didn't think she'd come close to offering what I ended up making either and figured if she was willing to offer a good price then she could offer it via bidding.
Her asking me to end the listings and sell to her is against ebay policy isn't it? If do you folk report and/or block members that do stuff like this?
Another question. If I block someone who retracted their bids (from several of my items with no valid reason and I reported to ebay) that means I will never see items they list in future as well as them not seeing mine right?
While I'm at it. I noticed some sellers listing items at ridiculous amounts way beyond the standard selling price for that item. Example, fisher price loving family doll house (house only). Can be picked up for ten bucks if they sell at all. I've seen listings asking $80 plus post and even one for $130 all with no accessories which are the valuable items. Are they just waiting for someone to come along who has no idea at all and doesn't use the search function to see what same type items are selling for?

Btw the over priced doll houses I'm talking about are ones being offered by very experienced sellers who would surely have checked what the going rates are???

Trading outside eBay is against use policy technically. If inclined you can report the message to eBay.
not sure about your bid retraction question.
i have noticed that some people charge huge postage amounts to avoid paying eBay commission on the final sales price, this could be what's going on in these cases you mention. They will certainly get a poor rating for postage in the feedback One would assume.

You aren't allowed to end a listing with bids early to a non bidder and they aren't allowed to ask you to do it.
Anyone can see your listings but they can't bid or use buy it now if they are blocked.
Sellers can list items for any price and make it impossible to sell them if they are overpriced.

If you had of been happy with the amount she offered, you could have ended the listing & done a buy it now for her-that is not against ebay policy & there is nothing to report her for & no reason to block her.
You cannot stop anyone from viewing your listings & vice versa-your block only stops them from bidding on your items.
If people want to buy stuff at what you consider to be inflated prices, that is their choice & there is nothing you can do about it.

From an ethical point of view it's wrong to end a listing with bids because your bidders miss out on a chance to win it.

Hmm, thanks. Might report the member as I felt she was a bit too pushy. More than one email.
The sellers I'm talking about with the ridiculously overpriced items do not appear to be shifting fees to the postage to avoid commission. They just seem to have ridiculous prices. One ad even claimed the house is rare when they are all over the place on ebay and common as mud. I just don't get why they would bother listing so high. When I look at completed listings none have sold anywhere remotely near those prices.
So someone I block could still view my ads and then bid under another id if they want to anyway after realising that I'd blocked them?

'From an ethical point of view it's wrong to end a listing with bids because your bidders miss out on a chance to win it.'
I wasn't remotely interested in ending the listings. At the time she asks me though I'd just posted them and there were no bids.

I don't feel I need to 'do' anything about sellers with ridiculous prices. Just curious if there was something I didn't 'get' about their practices.

If you only buy you can make your feedback private but there is nothing for sellers - anyone can view your listings.
