Power Seller - only for ebay's benefit!

I haven't even used up my 30 free listings for the month and ebay have decided to give me Power Seller status.  The benefit to me:  none.  The benefit to ebay:  I pay additional fees.

One more month of free listings and I would have completed my garage sale.  For those of you who want to criticise me for whingeing about losing free listings just think first about the extra business you probably gain from us garage sale people making ebay a more interesting place for buyers.

To ebay, your fees are high enough and I think you can afford to continue giving casual sellers, like myself, the free listings because there are benefits to keeping us around. You did double your profits in the second quarter this year, it's not like you need the extra cash.

I'm not going to start a new ID just to sell a few more items, and I'm not going to sell any more because it just feels like another kick in the teeth from ebay where its all for the benefit of the buyer.

Power Seller status has never been worth anything, except a tiny bit of cred..

It does however gain you access to the secret squirrel forum. The price of admission is that you lose your free listings each month.

I think TRS is a lot more credible rating.

You get TRS if you're a powerseller and tick all the boxes.

Which you obviously do as you're a TRS.

congratulations, you probably deserve the status because you have worked hard and your efforts have paid off and I think TRS is a lot more credible rating.

Not really hard work, if you have a store and use listing templates then ebay almost runs it's self. I don't do hard work, I don't do ANY work if I can avoid it lol.

Well I think I worked hard, I don't use Turbo or whatever (too thick to figure it out to tell the truth) and I was pretty stoked to get TRS frankly. I work full time as well and I am a single mum, so yeh, I think I have put my fair share of effort in. But I do know a lot of others who have done the same and have not achieved it, so I don't really understand where you are coming from pj ? If someone is doing it as a hobby (or dare I say it - garage sale) then fine, but I really am trying to make it a bit of an earner for myself, I am pretty pleased so far.

I suppose it depends on the value you put on your time and effort.  For instance, the time you spend answering questions on this forum.  You don't get paid for it, but I am sure ebay appreciates it.

Why is it all about money?  Some of us come here to answer questions just because we want to help.

I have used ebay for over 6 years and paypal for much longer so have a reasonable working knowledge of both and I am past retirement age so have the time to share that knowledge with others.

I could not care less whether ebay appreciates it or not...I get a small amount of personal satisfaction out of being able to help others, although it would be nice if ebay occasionally acknowledged out existance.

I have always found there is more profit in helping others then worrying about how much I have made from the transaction.

To put it simply so you can understand this; though I think you will argue,

The more helpful and the better the service is the more people will pay for your product over others.

eBay is a business and needs to earn money to survive. They, in turn, give your business greater exposure, bringing better profits.

This exposure for your product makes greater profit only if you don't upset too many people. This is achieved by giving greater service then the competition, thus creating more profit.

So if you are making money, pay the rent, and get on with it.

Why worry about a couple of bucks when you are making good money.

Maybe you should change your name to:

WIIFM!
