Quick question on FVF fees

I'm posting on behalf of someone who's a bit wary of a possible transaction, but I just want to confirm something first for her.

She's wanting to purchase a larger item from a different state on a page that's not ebay related. She want's to be protected somewhat and the seller has offered to list it as a BIN on here for her, as long as she pays the fees. The total cost INCLUDING courier is $500. The seller has stated fees will be between $70-$80. Is that correct?

I personally don't think she should go through with it, and if the seller is giving her a high estimate of fees in order to put her off from requesting it be listed here, then I'd like to tell her. If it's a fair estimate then I can say so.

Thx in advance 🙂

Assuming free listing, FVF would be 9.9% of total price including shipping, plus Paypal transfer fees of 2.4% plus $0.30. Total costs on a $500 item would therefore be in the vicinity of $63, which is considerably less than the $70 to $80 quoted.

Quick question on FVF fees

eBay Aus offers no Buyer Protection except for perhaps the visibility of an established trading history of the seller.

Buyer Protection is provided by the buyer's selected payment method, which is why eBay requires sellers to offer PayPal, Paymate or Merchant creditcard.

Your friend can use PayPal to send a payment for a purchase and can still be covered by PayPal's Buyer Protection. Check the eligibility requirements.

FVFs vary depending on whether the seller has a store or not and what category the item is listed in. Casual sellers pay up to 9.9% for FVFs on the total amount including shipping. PayPal basic fees are 2.4%.

By listing an item on eBay, eBay will then take a percentage of any added costs, though.

If the seller lists it for $570, after fees they will be left with $499.59. (That is presuming PayPal costs were not already considered, if they were, the seller need only account for the eBay fee, which an extra $55-odd would do if the FVF percentage would be at the maximum rate).

Quick question on FVF fees

Yes, you're quite right DG; I'd neglected to add the predetermined expenses in advance, in which case roughly $70 would be about right.
