Do ebay think we are mugs when they allow 270 listings per month for some sellers and only 40 are free?
Do they have anyone in authority to digest the first question and make an executive decision to raise the free listing quota?
Do they honestly think that people are going to pay for the balance of the listings they are allowed when ebay, paypal and aus post combined make more out of an item than the seller?
You send out surveys amongst your members asking all sorts of questions which fall on selective hearing, I'll save you the time and cut to the chase.
RAISE THE FREE LISTING QUOTA.
No brainer.

It's not that long ago we paid insertion fees for ALL items. If your profit margins are so low, perhaps you need to look at your pricing.

Yeah, I can't understand it when people say they sell at a loss.
It's called doing your homework, for a start
If you can figure out the fees, (not hard) then there's your starting point.

I wonder if the OP thought they were speaking to eBay? It cracks me up how many people contact eBay demanding more free listings. If they're not careful, they'll remove the free listings all together and make us pay for each and every one again.
I wonder if these same people walk into a shop and demand freebies at the top of their voice? Nothing would surprise me.
If the 40 free listings a month, plus the regular 150 bonus free listings aren't enough, do what others have done and create a new account. It's as simple as that.

Or open a store.
Or am I mug for doing that?
Surely the basic $20 store with 200 listings would b worth it.
Not so sure about the $50 feature store tho.

Or sell gear elsewhere > which family & I discussed today. Something that is now in the works. Selling at a loss on ebay is trying to remain the slightest bit competitive with all the on-site drop shippers & cheap asian markets PLUS outlay fees on top, let alone materials price > which is why things will be going elsewhere. A few will remain just to keep the door open, but for me I'll be offline with it.

Spend $20 a month to open a store? Hun I have had $19 between 2 sales this month, now minus materials & fees - wouldn't allow the price of a takeaway cuppa. Many ppl are spending their xmas $ @ B&M stores as well. I'm looking at other options now than online. I like others, cannot compete - it's reality. Sorry but no, not taking fees for an online store either. Bye.

When it comes to eBay, you really have to be careful what you wish for.
Originally, all listings attracted insertion fees, with the occasional promotion giving free listings for auctions starting at 99c
The people said "more free listings!!! and for whatever start price and format we want!!!"
So eBay said, "alright, we'll give you 30 a month in any format, as long as you're not a power seller, but in order to give you free listings, we have to make up the loss of revenue, so we're going to plaster your listings with third-party advertising (a lot of which is going to be related to the items you're selling".
And so, the people were happy for a little while. But soon, 30 a month all the time just wasn't cutting it for them, and heaven forbid they sold enough to become a power seller and lose access to the free listings. ๐ฎ
So eBay said, "you're breaking my **** here guys, but here's what we're going to do - we'll give you 10 more listings a month and make it so power sellers still get free listings, but to make up for that loss in revenue, we're going to have to raise the FVF instead, in fact, we'll have to more than double it for some sales, we're also going to need to put third party advertising on all listings on the site, not just the free ones....and as an added bonus, we'll raise the maximum FVF cap from $50 to $250" ๐
And some of the people were happy, for a little while....and so the cycle continues until we're in a place with third party advertising flippin' everywhere, higher category specific FVF in some cases, $1.50 - $3.50 insertion fees after the quota, FVF cap raised from $250 to $750 in the US, so will probably come here too, and FVF on postage - none of the free stuff or minor reductions in a few areas can really make up for any of that.
The moral of this story is: Please, for heaven's sake, stop asking for more free stuff, because eBay makes all of us pay more in many other ways.
