Refunds & Postage From Other OnLine Sellers

Some time back I bought a Netcomm modem online from PC Case Gear. I paid them using PayPal.

From the outset it was unstable and never worked correctly. Netcomm were convinced it was not their modem.

Eventually I purchased a 2nd modem and after trying all kinds of stuff Netcomm finally agreed it looked like their modem was at fault.

I bought another one from somewhere else and the problems all disappeared. Good enuff proof.

So Netcomm said return both modems to PC Case Gear for a refund.

PC Case Gear have just processed both refunds but have deducted 2 lots of postage charges at $17.95 each.

So I'm out of pocket $35.90 for the original shipping of the two units. And also the cost of sending the faulty units back to them.

Another $22.

I know this has nothing to do with ebay as I didn't buy them thru ebay. But possibly should have.

As we all know in such a situation ebay would enforce the seller to pay the cost of return shipping plus fully refund the orifinal purchase cost once I returned the goods.

PC Case Gear just say tough luck. There is no recourse.

Moral to the story: if you are a buyer use ebay. If you are a seller steer clear.

Thats the real world, the retailer sends back to supplier gets a refund then sends that to you. They dont get penalized for shipping because you had it posted out rather than walked through the door. At the end of the day the retailer wasn't to blame either.

Shipping wasn't faulty, it is a consequential loss, and nearly every item is excluded from consequential loss of the product being faulty.

Ebay force return shipping as its not their money, its a good selling point for them, and because they can. Some sellers would do it anyway as good PR, but the benefit of that PR is lost if everyone is forced to do it. It then becomes expected rather than just good service.
