Returns

Hi, I very clearly put on all my auctions (I am an individual, not a shop) Returns not Accepted. I also put as much detail as I can about each item I sell - and the internet is full of information on product models etc. even when I may not list all the specifics in my item.

Yet I received a Return request with the message "Just didn't like it" and the buyer apparently misunderstood what they were buying. I had specified the make and model and description on the box - and even photographed the box. There is no excuse for misunderstanding the product they were buying. Yet I was threatened with action from ebay if I didn't accept the return!

What can I do now, is there a second chance offer available to the unsuccessful bidder once the return is processed? I've never processed a return before - as I said, I don't accept them in my listings and I am just an individual seller not a shop. Thanks,

Unfortunately even if you state no returns in your listings ebay will force you to accept returns as it means nothing to ebay.

Doesn't matter if you're solo or a shop.

The buyer asked for a return because they didn't like it so it is a change of mind which techniquely the buyer shouldn't be allowed to return it.

But you said ebay has asked you to accept the return so unless you do that then ebay will refund the buyer and recoup the money off you and perhaps even let the buyer keep the item.

This has happened to me so becareful how you proceed, good luck.

If the buyer has asked for a change of mind refund then you do not have to accept it if your returns policy states no returns. If they have said the item is not as described then your refund policy does not enter into it, you will have to pay the return postage if you want to get it back.

My return policy says I will refund item price only for change of mind and the couple of times that has happened that is all the buyer has got back.

Has the buyer actually opened a return dispute, or just asked to return it? If they've just asked to return it, accept it, even though you don't have to, but make sure they are aware that by returning it, they will be refunded the item price only. No refunds on postage. If you don't accept it, you stand the risk of them opening a not as described dispute, which eBay will force you to accept the return and you also have to cough up all postage costs.

If they have opened a return dispute through eBay, if eBay decides to close it in the buyers favour, contact them immediately and get them to read the emails between yourself and the buyer so they can see that it's a change of mind return. That way you should only have to refund the item cost. If they have opened a dispute do not, I repeat DO NOT ask eBay to step in and help. The instant you do that, eBay will close the case in the buyers favour, refund them and let them keep the item.
