Right that is it, I am over ebay. They don't care for casual sellers.

I am seriously peed off. I have been a collector for over 50 years of antique and vintage items. It was all started when I was just 12 when my Nana took me to jumble sales and I started to appreciate the quality and workmanship of old items,

This led to me inheriting heaps of things and building up crazy collections of everything.

Many things I display and enjoy in my home, but heaps have been stored away. I think I srarted selling things occasionally on ebay about 7 years ago. I always enjoy the research and making people happy.

It is a ot of work, to take good photos and write honest descriptions, but I didnt mind as it was a nice hobby.

This week I decided to kick it off again, I spent over $250.00 pn pre paid satchels, spent 6 days doing the photos and descriptions and hey ho, I sold one tea towel tonight for $5.50.

I notice there is hardly any decent vintage/antique stuff sold now on ebay. I believe this is because they are greedy b******s who have even taken a cut from Australia Post which is outrageous.

So now I will look for somewhere else to sell my hoard, I am considering etsy or FB pages, which seems to be where most are heading. I am bitterly dissapointed as I have top seller status, but thing for me and other similar people ebay is now a dead duck, so sad. If anyone has any suggestions, they would me most welcome.

I am going to be really nosey lyndal, have you ever sold on eBay ?

I know you are mostly a buyer, but wondered if you had ever thought of giving the selling a go, or maybe you are too savvy for that (especially these days LOL)

No I have never sold on ebay and have no desire to give it a go in today's climate.

When I started buying on ebay I did have in mind to buy some items that I liked and to add to my collections and enjoy for a few years then sell them on again.

Before I could start selling ebay started making changes right, left and centre and I decided selling was not for me, particularly as most of my collectables are china and breakable.

When I finally decide to dispose of my collectables it will be at an auction house.   My OH disposed of a wine collection a few years ago and did very well out of it.

My coins will probably be offered to the local coin dealers where I bought most of the coins that were not inherited and I know several of them will be happy to take some of the inherited coins off my hands.   I may get more by ebaying them but I am not prepared to take the chance, knowing that I could just as easily lose my coins and money if I strike a dishonest buyer.

And reading and posting on the boards does nothing to make me change my mind.Smiley Mad

Oooohhhh, sovereigns! I could only dream about them. They are worth a small fortune and depending on the year, some would be worth more than my house. I would definitely be researching each one if you do decide to sell them because you could easily be ripped off. One of my old buyers turned friend listed one that he had. I didn't know he had it and certainly didn't know he was listing it (he sold opals). I discovered it just as the auction was finishing and it sold for $90. That one had a value of over $1,000. I could hear him crying from here when I told him!

He had a heap of other coins in his possession, some rare and valuable, some not so much. He was sorting through them to put them in valuable and not so valuable piles when his girlfriend up and left him one day while he was at work. She THREW OUT his coins, his opals and all his gemstome stuff (he made jewellery from his opals) and a heap of other stuff. Somewhere buried at the local tip near Beaconsfield Tas is a whole heap of valuable coins!

I can just see hoards of people turning up at the Beaconsfield tip now.

My mother once offered me a half crown but I declined because I thought there was too much of a 'price' attached (and I don't mean money). She only had two so I assume my sisters got them.

Tippy, I have not recently researched the value of my sovereigns that were inherited....most of them are lower grades....but I have never paid more than $750 for any that I have bought myself and that was before the price of gold skyrocketed.

I should have had a lot more sovereigns if my non-coin collecting granny had not given them away.   Her brother was a dentist and when sovereigns were withdrawn from circulation she gave her stash to him to use as fillings.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Smiley LOL
