I am seriously peed off. I have been a collector for over 50 years of antique and vintage items. It was all started when I was just 12 when my Nana took me to jumble sales and I started to appreciate the quality and workmanship of old items,
This led to me inheriting heaps of things and building up crazy collections of everything.
Many things I display and enjoy in my home, but heaps have been stored away. I think I srarted selling things occasionally on ebay about 7 years ago. I always enjoy the research and making people happy.
It is a ot of work, to take good photos and write honest descriptions, but I didnt mind as it was a nice hobby.
This week I decided to kick it off again, I spent over $250.00 pn pre paid satchels, spent 6 days doing the photos and descriptions and hey ho, I sold one tea towel tonight for $5.50.
I notice there is hardly any decent vintage/antique stuff sold now on ebay. I believe this is because they are greedy b******s who have even taken a cut from Australia Post which is outrageous.
So now I will look for somewhere else to sell my hoard, I am considering etsy or FB pages, which seems to be where most are heading. I am bitterly dissapointed as I have top seller status, but thing for me and other similar people ebay is now a dead duck, so sad. If anyone has any suggestions, they would me most welcome.

Believe it or not, I do understand you and your collection. I could be your twin sister.
I have been a collector of many things over the years, as were my Mother and both Grandmothers.
I have now in my possession the complete collections of 4 very dedicated collectors of a great variety of items.
I have also been a business owner....my husband and I ran a retail business of 3 shops and currently have a service based business.
A few years ago I contacted the ATO to see where I stood if I were to sell some of my items. As they were all my personal items I would not have to pay tax on the proceeds. I was most interested in how my coin collection would be treated and was told that if I was only selling one of a coin it would not attract tax but if I had multiples it would be treated as a business where I had purchased with the view to selling the extras.
Just because you are termed a business on ebay that does not mean you would be a business in tax office terms. If I sold my coins on ebay I would well and truly have to abide by ebay's business policies but would not be treated as a business by the ATO.
It may pay you to have a word with an accountant if you really do want to get rid of your collections.....and have a look over the current ebay rules....you will find they have changed a lot over the years.

You're not alone granny as most sellers are finding it hard to sell things across the board on all sites.
I was a top seller over a year ago on ebay and was booted off so decided to sell on another site and quess what?
I've had 1 sale in a year on the other site
It's becoming a trend lately with no buyers around.
Ebay must be loosing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in fees lol.

Why two threads?
Seriously, you give up easily. Five days you've had auctions listed, and you're
ready to give up?
Personally, I don't think a five day auction is long enough for your stuff - if you
want to auction. Not enough views in that time. I'd go 10 days.
But, better still I'd do BIN, cos I think you might be starting your auctions
a bit on the high side.
If you're prepared to accept one bid, then BIN them at that price
Stop all the dummy spitting and do something constructive.
Or just sit and wait like the rest of us.
Did you think everyone was gunna fall over themselves to get to your stuff?
Read the boards.........sellers are hurting......you're not alone.....no-one is buying atm
I think you have some very nice items.

Oh my goodness, that is not very encouraging. I think I may just pack the whole bloody lot away and maybe my Grandchildren or even my Great Grandchildren can have the benefit, if any. So sad.

Lol, I didnt realise I had 2 threads. I am certainly not a dummy spitter. I will try again, but I cannot afford to pay listing fees as most of my items are not high value. I take your point. I know 10 days listings are much more succesful.
Thank you for liking my items, my worst problem is that we have to go off regularly to our farm and therefore apart from dragging things backwards and forwards I am pretty much stuck here (where I dont want to be) when I have listings. But can you not see that most of the smaller sellers seem to have vanished?

Not to mention spending $250 on prepaid satchels (one of the most expensive ways to post) before testing the water.
I would have spent $3 buying 20 eBay 500g satchels. Which, as every body knows, allow you to pay postage post-sale. Far more cash flow positive than forking out upfront for more expensive postage.

A lot of the small sellers are still here. It's just that their listings aren't visible a lot of the time.

What listing fees?
You get 40 free listings every month

I have always tried to keep it simple, my poor old brain thinks that a flat rate postage with signature is the simplest way. TBH I have never got my head around other ways, that is why I stick to Australia only sales.
It hasalways worked really well for me in the past, maybe I am just being an impatient old bag who is jumping to conclusions?

Why?
