Ripped off with fake item now PayPal wants 'expert' opinion

So yes, I was recently ripped off by a seller on a non-genuine item. I got conned.

I put in a complaint to PayPal and after several weeks of silence they now tell me I need to have the item verified by an independent expert as not being original, and I'll then need to fax them all kinds of notarised supporting documentation.

Has anyone else had to go through this after being scammed? I'll probably just let it go, it was only $35, which will still be missed, but it seems more trouble than it's worth.

You bought an item through eBay and it was genuine and then went against ebay's own advice and purchased an item off ebay from the same seller.

Two completely different purchases and really you should have known better with over 6000 feedback.

You thought you were going to get a bargain and instead got ripped off.

Maybe the seller deserved the neg but you are not blameless in this mess.

OK, that is a bit of a muddle; you have absolutely NO right to claim on it as an eBay transaction.  Was it all one payment, or did you pay for the second item separately?  How did you finance the PP payment?  If through CC you could try to get chargeback, but I am not sure if that would work.  Hope you kept all the correspondence .
