Scam/Phishing Attempt?

We received an email today with a HTML receipt attached.

The subject reads  "Receipt for your payment to ****"

The amount is for $179.

The message says we have paid $179

But we dont know who they are and there is certainly no transaction in our PayPal account for any amount like this.

Of course the email looks very genuine and there are links embedded. Please DO NOT CLICK them.

Just wondered if anyone else is getting these. Looks like a phishing attempt to us.

Scam/Phishing Attempt?

Received this email today and is of course Phishing/Scam email.

Important things to remember if you’re not sure if a PayPal transaction email is genuine or a scam.

Genuine PayPal transactions (Receipt for your payment) emails are:

1) Addressed to you personally. Example: Hello Joe Blow.

Scam emails are not as the scammer doesn't know your name.

2) Scam emails will encourage you to click on an embedded link in the email if you think the transaction is unauthorised or an error. NEVER use the link in these emails.

If you are unsure if the transaction is legitimate or not you should ALWAYS open a new screen/window and go to your PayPal account the way you normally do and trust. You can then check your recent transaction details to verify if you're made a transaction to that seller for that dollar amount.

Hope this helps

Something most people should know in the first second after they open the email.

Scam/Phishing Attempt?

I just received one of these and blamed my daughter for using my account which she denied, she does not have my password. I did click on it, not knowing that it is a scam.

There is a scam where members have bought and item but the seller hasn't claimed the payment.

They then have access to the correct name/address and Email address.

The phishing attempt will follow three months down the track and they WILL use the correct name the same as eBay

and Paypal,(a link to a fake log in site will also be included).

Anyone that has clicked on a link will also need to download anti spyware such as Spybot search & destroy,

Malware bites or SuperAntiSpyware,(they all have free editions).

They should pick up any Malware or Keyloggers that may have been present in the link.
