i saw this item which is only an ink cartridge and the seller has listed as a pick up only
i messaged them twice in the last 48 hours enquiring about postage, they have not got back
and the item ends in about 2 hours so looks like this seller is missing on extra money

Keep in mind that not all messages make it through the system, especially now that eBay is blocking messages with certain words and phrases. I have no idea how frequently the message system fails, and I would think at least one of two would have been received, but sometimes the seller may be completely unaware rather than ignorant.

and as mentioned earlier - it is listed as PICK UP ONLY
You may think the seller ignorant for not replying, they may think you are ignorant for not reading the terms of sale.
As you say, you lose nothing, so all is well.

rjm don't worry about the seller, it is their problem if they made less than they could/should have, but it was afterall, their decision to offer "PICK UP ONLY".
You seem quite annoyed with the seller so why can't you see that they might be equally annoyed with you?
They want pick up only, you want it posted, the seller sets the terms of sale within the policies of ebay.

i'm not worried but i tried to ask a question and they didnt reply so i'll just buy something else

I'd buy a printer cartridge from a B&M. But that's just me.

There is nothing wrong with me saying; " They may need to find out how much postage will cost but it isn't a good way to do things. " Maybe it is a pick up only item which is unusual for a small item however the seller may have listed it without a postage cost for the reason I've suggested.

Perhaps the ink cartridge is not "full". After all, how can the buyer tell? The seller is covering themselves against a Paypal claim by choosing pick-up only.

In general, OP, I completely agree with you. Sellers should most definitely answer questions.
Even if they think it's a "dumb" question, or they are annoyed as the answer is in the listing, they should still suck it up and answer. It's called customer service.
Those who think they don't have to answer, are lazy sellers IMO.
Avoid those ones!
Why should the seller have to answer a question when what the buyer is asking is already in the listing?
If it is listed as Pick Up Only then that's the answer... If the seller wanted to post it they would have put that in their listing
