Is it allowed if you have a Paypal approved download platform where buyers are directed on the Paypal receipt?
Not eBay.com. au.......... eBay.com.

This is the site policy re: digitally delivered goods: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/downloadable.html
They only mention sent via email or downloaded from a website as delivery methods - I'm not sure if you would be able to include the link on an eBay checkout-generated PayPal reciept, but either way I'm guessing it would qualify as downloaded from a website, so I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be allowed if it meets all the other criteria.

Thank you for that. I sell on three other US sites (not eBay) that buyers can download from their Paypal invoice. It is so easy. One site, which charges for listing fees, I have to just make sure that I keep topping up the items available, but on the other two, I only have to upload once and they just stay for unlimited downloads.
None of these sites have the traffic of eBay, but I do quite well, and if I could crack the US eBay sales, I think that I could do very well.
Would having a US address and bank account be a plus? There is a way that I could do that, in a partnership situation.

Sorry, I really don't know (I know there are some other sites, eg the other one that starts with e and ends with y, catering primarily for handmade items, where you can upload digital items and buyers can access the download as soon as they pay), but I think eBay still requires them to be sent separately.
If it's not possible to include the link on the PayPal receipt (you might be able to get confirmation if asked on the US forum), I think think you would probably be able to edit one of the emails that is sent post-payment to include the download link.
EDIT: Scratch that idea (re: editing emails) - I just realised they're all generic emails sent to all buyers, so it would only work if you were selling one item. I don't think there's a way to edit an auto-email that's sent to buyers of specific items.

I do sell on the one you mentioned with e and y. It is by far my biggest sales platform, I will be in the US in 2 weeks, visiting the friend who I may make a partnership with, using her address and bank account for a mutually agreeable division of profits.
It is eBay legal to allow someone else to sell my products, isn't it?
I kind of think that if I have a US presence that I would come up better in search.

I forgot to say that when I first started selling on the one that you mentioned, they didn't have the instant download facility, and we had to email the item. That worked ok.

No idea about the auto download thingie but there is nothing to stop you using your aus account to list on the US site, all you need do is log in using ebay.com and go to the sell form.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

I have tried that with little success. My location shows as Australia and I just don't get the interest, and I suspect, the visability. I don't think it is my product, as I sell well, worldwide, but mainly the US, on other, much smaller sites, but those sites seem to have a more globally inclusive marketing strategy.

The location displayed in listings is according to the item location, rather than the seller's location (that's why Oz sellers can list on the Oz site but show on listings the item is located in the UK, China or wherever it's shipped from).
Cyberspace itself isn't an acceptable item location, though...but it's also kinda located nowhere and everywhere. o_O

Thanks. I didn't know that.
