Selling Mojo Low

I have now spent most of my day lazing about, on the phone, reading the US boards (that are worth a squiz from time to time IMO), posting to the AU boards, making coffees, snacking, snacking, snacking and not getting on with the to do list, that had as a must-do  getting new listings ready for my eBay IDs that are all slowly coming to a sales halt over the past several weeks.   Smiley Indifferent

I haven't even messaged sellers to organise a number of pick ups that I must do this week, or answered questions re my own listings that I normally do straight away Cat Indifferent

Is procastinating about selling tasks, in fact a break, and time well spent?

Or, does one's eBay mojo fade overtime?

Tips to stay motivated to do eBay selling stuff gratefully received.

I would posit that a change is as good as a rest, therefore having a slothful day when you would normally be doing productive stuff (listing-wise) is a rest. And is therefore legitimate.

I make sure that I usually prepare 3 listings per day. In TL. That way I only have to upload them when their time comes due. I don't list 3 a day, so I always have enough in advance and if I miss a day here or there in setting them up, I always have enough on hand to list them when they are scheduled to go.

I have my days where I would rather not even turn on the computer. Smiley Embarassed

I really love what I do, but it requires a lot of time and energy, so every so often I feel more like switching it all off and not even thinking about it for a while.

Sometimes I find concentrating on a slightly different aspect of the whole store thing helps - it can be easy for me to fall into a repetitive pattern (get up, turn computer on, do A, then B, then C), so I try to do some of the things that keep me interested in the bigger picture - for me that's "research", which can take a variety of different forms. 😄

I look at new products, think of ways I can use them or whether they might do well in my store, try to find things that are a bit different, look at what other people might be doing differently to see if it can inspire something. Sometimes, I just watch a movie and promise myself I'll pay extra attention to the jewellery the actors are wearing. Smiley LOL The smallest thing can lead to a change, or enough of a change to keep things interesting... Eventually I get new ideas, then I get excited about my ideas, so it stops the menial, day-to-day tasks from feeling like a neverending cycle.

On a general note, something I always used to tell others is that if you don't take care of yourself, it makes it that much harder to take care of anyone else (which is what sellers effectively do on a day-to-day basis), so giving yourself a break and indulging in some other things is always good, IMHO.

Selling Mojo Low

Hello,

Being inspired to get things done is really difficult sometimes. Here are my suggestions but first a bit of background. I'm a retired 67 year old man whose wife still works, trying to do my share around the house, enjoy my hobby (stamp collecting) and selling items on EBay (to pay for my hobby).

Chuck out any routine you are labouring under. Make a list of what you want to accomplish in the next few days. Work out the 5 most important, most necessary or most enjoyable. Choose one of them and work on it til you are tired of doing it. Choose another and do it til you are bored. Continue through the day. Have a rest when you need to. Cook a good dinner.

At the end of the day take stock. Did you get anything done, are you happier now than when you got up.  If so, It was a good day.

Best wishes

Robert

I'm with you on this.  I find my interest level varies from day to day.  Whilst I still get on eBay every night, I find that I don't buy anywhere near as much as I used to.  I used to sell a lot of gear on another ID, but the bottom fell out of the market for what I was buying and selling.  That is not anybody's fault, not even eBay's!  That's when I moved to K1000 cameras, but I only treat eBay as a hobby so I do not sell a lot.

I always say to myself that I should list some things this weekend, but invariably I do not as by the time the weekend comes around I am so burned out from my day job that I just veg out.

Well I have the ultimate break, six months on, six months off lol. Just keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well with the cardiologist on Tues and there are not going to be any problems with me flying back and opening up shop in November. By then I am champing at the bit and full of enthusiasm, usually lasts until the first computer glitch that happens after it has been off for so long lol.

well the last couple of weeks i have been putting new items in turbolister and going nuts using up as many free listings of the 10,000 from last weeks promotion.

well i got 300 up.. lol... but most nights i was spending hours doing so (i work full time too)

well i did NOTHING all weekend (excpet a few postings) and i sat with the wife and watched some movies on TV

It was good to have a break from ebay/turbolister

i usually find after a couple of break days i get my mojo back, especially when more free listing promotions come up

I also lose some mojo when i have some quiet selling days, and when the phone goes CHING CHING i get the buzz back
