Selling home gym as pickup - question about payment

Hi I'm new at selling on Ebay. Sold one item earlier in the year as pickup and the buyer paid cash on pickup as it was only a small item.

My question is that I'm selling a home gym now which if it sells will be a more expensive item and I've listed it as pickup either cash on delivery or bank deposit.  I haven't specifically specified that I want payment before pickup.

If the buyer chooses bank deposit should I expect the buyer to pay for the item eg I see the cash in my account before they come to pick it up?  I'm assuming yes.  I guess I want to see the money in my account first?  Sorry if this is a silly question.  I'm putting myself in the buyers shoes and thinking that I'd like to see the item first hand before I pay for it.  However maybe the whole point of online buying through ebay is trust as most sellers (hopefully) are honest about their listings.

Any advice would be appreciated.

With such a big item, I'm sure that a prospective buyer would like to see it first.

You could put in "inspection welcome" and suggest they email you to arrange it.

Then if they decide to go ahead and bid,  naturally if they choose bank deposit (but mind you I don't think they will)  you will wait until payment has cleared before allowing pickup.

Most probably, a buyer would offer you cash on pickup.

I think most pick up items are cash on inspection, if I was the  buyer I would not part with my money before seeing the item.

Hi thank you very much for the advice.  I thought it may be the case as I would want to see it if I were the buyer.  I've been doing a bit more research on ebay and searching through the forums and I'm thinking if the buyer doesn't want to carry a lot of cash (assuming I sell it :-)) then I could have them bring a bank cheque and give it to me if they're happy that it is as described.

cash on pick up is really the only way to go...

you cant expct a complete stranger to put money into yr bank a/c and wait a day or 2 or 3 before collecting their item, and as paypal offers absolutely no protection for buyers or sellers for pick up items,

cash is really the only option
