@grandtek_auto,

There are restrictions on selling certain items on eBay as part of eBay's policies in response to sellers taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic. These include price gouging as well as selling PPE.

New Government Restrictions on the Sale of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

โUnder a new Determination by the Federal Minister for Health, there are now restrictions on the sale of certain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (disposable face masks; disposable gloves; disposable gowns; goggles, glasses or eye visors; alcohol wipes; and hand sanitiser) in Australia.  These restrictions apply to all eBay sellers who list or are approved to list the items above.

The changes make it an offence to re-sell PPE purchased at retail for more than 120% of its purchase price. The Determination applies to the resale of items purchased since 30 Jan 2020.

In addition, the Government has introduced restrictions banning these items from export.

Failure to adhere to these requirements can lead to penalties including fines or jail. If you're selling any type of PPE on eBay, we encourage you to review the above determination and familiarise yourself with eBayโ€™s policies and restrictions prior to listing.

Item Restrictions

In addition to the measures above, we have also restricted listing of items in some categories to eligible business sellers only to ensure our marketplace remains safe for buyers and sellers. See a summary of these changes below.

Only sellers approved by eBay can sell:

  • Masks
  • Hand sanitisers
  • Disinfecting wipesโž

I hope that clarifies the situation.

Selling masks

Hi,

it has been nearly 3 years now. Is this still the case?

We want to sell our high quality masks imported from Europe and certified by EU standards.

Especially with upcoming fire season there will be a demand for non medical safety masks.

How can we get approval? There is clearly not a Pandemic anymore.

Thanks

Ummm, yeah there is. Just because we are no longer getting daily flood coverage in the media, it hasn't gone away. Sadly, it's still doing it's thing. It's still killing people. We just aren't hearing about it because there are too many other important things in the news, like the latest in TikTok influencer videos.

Clearly not?

It is false 'information' like that that is one of things ensuring it will keep going and going

There have been numerous warnings about the 'new' variant all over the news in the past few days

Maybe sell them at a market or something

The pandemic is still with us, it is the pandemic response that has changed. People are going about their everyday lives now but that doesn't mean COVID has disappeared. In fact we are in our 9th wave at the moment.

As you know, fewer people are wearing masks as a matter of course but they are still around so if you want to sell on ebay, you'd do best to read up on ebay policies, see if you can qualify.

Apart from that, find another venue or even sound out some shops to see if they would be interested in stocking your supplies.

Are you registered as a business seller? Could be registered as a personal seller that's why.

Genuine question, I don't care about covid at all, however why on earth are you selling masks if  "There is clearly not a Pandemic anymore. " Wouldn't there be less demand according to you?

I think he's hoping to sell them for fire season but whether people stock up on masks in anticipation of fires, I do not know.

did you read their post.  And at the end of the day,  good profits can be made even if there is less demand for a product.
