Shipping internationally to specific countries, not regions

Been selling for a few years and looking to expand my international shipments, and run up against a weird problem.

I want to sell to China, but it doesn't look like I can do that without selling to all of Asia.  Is it possible to just ship to one country?  The reason why this is an issue is that shipping to Asian countries varies wildly in cost depending what country it is.  Specifying one price for a whole continent isn't practical.

Been researching this for a while with no luck.

Any help really appreciated!

Re: Shipping internationally to specific countries, not regions

Do you mean you want to add MORE to the AP cost for one country over another? Then no. eBay automatically shows the appropriate Australia Post International Standard cost for each country and applies it to the invoice. You can add a handling cost for International services - I do this to cover the FVF that eBay applies to postage but it will be the same handling cost for all International regions / countries.

Re: Shipping internationally to specific countries, not regions

Once you have selected International Postage, click on Posts Worldwide then below is "Excluded Locations" - click on that arrow and the next screen brings up the list of Continents/ Regions.  If you want to exclude countries in any one continent, click on that arrow and then select those countries you wish to exclude. If you wish to change this selection at any time, below these selected excluded countries is the full list of all countries in that continent / region, allowing you to select /deselect to change your excluded countries. This works for me - I have 139 countries excluded. If it is a temporary problem - from the postings of others there do seem to be issues today. Either save it as a Template (there seem to be problems with this today) or use Sell Similar so you don't have to make these choices every time.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Just to make sure I've got this right - you don't select the countries you want to ship to, instead you simply exclude countries you don't want to ship to.

So you sort of do it in reverse.  Is that correct?

Re: Shipping internationally to specific countries, not regions

Yes because the Tab you are clicking on is labelled "Excluded Locations".  You select "Posts Worldwide" and then the tab below is "Excluded Locations" - which is labelled (Optional) - obviously you can post worldwide everywhere if you wish. If you don't then you select Excluded Locations.

Re: Shipping internationally to specific countries, not regions

Thanks again.

One more thing I wanted to try to find out: is it possible to use the same shipping product twice?

I want to use 'Australia Post International Standard' with one price for say the USA, and another price for China.

I can't think of a workaround - is this possible?

Thanks again for your help!

Re: Shipping internationally to specific countries, not regions

Thanks for your patience with my questions.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant.  Because Australia Post charges different amounts to ship to different countries.  In some cases the difference is close to the profit on the kinds of items I ship.

I didn't understand this:

eBay automatically shows the appropriate Australia Post International Standard cost for each country and applies it to the invoice

eBay has never done that for me when listing something with an International shipping option.  Maybe it does that if you enter the dimensions of the item, which I never do because it can vary when I get it packaged.

I note that eBay has different International Standard products to choose from.  One of them is Australia Post, but others are unbranded.  I might have to use one of those to reflect the different prices that Australia Post charges.

Thanks for all your help!

Re: Shipping internationally to specific countries, not regions

When you create your listing you use calculated postage and enter the weight and size of your item as if it was packed and ready to ship. International is weight based only if using Aust Post so once you select the service you want to use when someone see's your listing it will show the appropriate postage amount to their country.

"eBay has never done that for me when listing something with an International shipping option. Maybe it does that if you enter the dimensions of the item, which I never do because it can vary when I get it packaged."

As eol has said, AP International is weight based. So unless you are posting something that is outside AP's size range

"International 20kg weight 105cm maximum length 140cm girth"

dimensions do not matter,  so just enter something generic. Dimensions for my parcels say 34 x 32 x 15 cms. As for weight, you would know how much the item weighs unpacked - then add whatever packing is going to weigh - the box (or padded bag), any packing (bubble wrap, nuggets, crumpled newspaper). Depending on what you sell, the most common weights are probably going to be 250g, 500g, 1 kg, 1.5kg, 2kg.

The only thing I change on my Internationally-listed items is the weight for any individual item. Otherwise it's just "Sell Similar". I have Flat Weight for all my domestic parcels (whether my packaging, satchels, AP boxes) so the weight only applies to International Post (if I have it selected). Have a look at the AP website

https://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/calculate-postage-delivery-times/#/

put in some different weights and countries, keeping the parcel dimensions the same. This is how eBay will calculate the AP costs on your individual listings. I have never used anything but AP for International Post, in either Standard or for more expensive items Express - their service IMO is reliable, trackable and in my experience similar in time frame  to what it was pre-COVID. Good luck.
