Should ebay profit from a FVF on postage costs?

Bad enough for the big sellers and their bottom line but what about the poor sods selling an item for a dollar with a postage cost of $7.20?

They'll end up with 18c after ebay have done their bit and then have to pay 50c to paypal.

Not only has he made nothing but is, in fact, 32c out of pocket!

Ebay govern us to not profif from postage and are quick to chastise the over-chargers but is it now the kettle calling the pot black when, for so many sellers, the FVF on the postage will be greater than that of the actual item?

For me there is only one conclusion..........

It sux like a Dyson!

I don't think that PayPal would profit - I think that PayPal's fees are as a pure percentage, with no "flagfall" fee, so PayPal's fee for 10 individual items at, say, $5  each would be the same

I apologise - I was totally unaware until now that PayPal had a 30c "flagfall" fee.

There is a $0.30 fee for most transactions. There is a micro transaction fee that can be set up though paypal which is $0.05 per transaction but higher percentage.

No, each Paypal payment received carries a fee of 30c + 2.4% of the sale price, so there is in fact as 'flagfall' charge which would be multiplied by the number of individual payments made. IOW, for 10 items paid individually, the 'flagfall' fees would come to $3.00, but if paid for with just one payment, the fee is only 30c.

Because they're frequently transferring money on my behalf and also have direct access to my bank account, I make it a specific point to remain up-to-date with all of Paypal's T&Cs by logging on to Paypal on a regular basis and studying their most recent policy updates (of which there are usually several), particularly in regard to their Buyer & Seller Protection requirements, and their ever-changing fee structure, and I'd advise all other Paypal users to do the same.

The problem, cq, is that eBay will not allow any discounts for anything other than postage. So your 10 items won't have any postage and ebay will not allow discounts post-sale.

The only real option for members wanting to buy from sellers who use the 'free' postage model is to get them to set up a BIN price for the selected items.

Unless they can go as letters, which generally don't attract cheaper postage in multiples anyway, I do and will list postage separately. Giving me the ability to offer my customers the best possible price for multiple purchases.

Yes, a good point Dave; you're quite right about ebay not allowing discounts for anything other than postage.

I also believe that listing postage separately encourages multiple purchases far more than offering 'free postage' does.

Haven't been back to comment about ebay employing an old age pensioner with severe arthritis and recently diagnosed with chronic heart failure, I hope their health plan is good because if I get back to Aus next November I may have a job getting medical insurance!

Of course I will have to survive the next three weeks first and those who have been around will see the odds of that happening when I say I have just collected a fox and three cubs from the airport and will have them here for what seems as if it is going to be a very long time.
