The scenario: A rather expensive, but nonetheless very competitively priced item or items, don't sell. They've been relisted a couple of times. In come the offers after the auction has closed. It normally happens with High End items. Silly offers. Not for half of the listed price, but half the cost price.
Who are these buyers who obviously see themselves as our saviours? I make this statement because of the way the offers are often worded. They also seem to be many. How did they propagate? Is there actually a plethora of sellers who will actually succumb to such silliness. I mean honestly, it does take some time to sell some items, but invariably they all sell. It's a matter of matching a buyer with a particular item. But, people who make these offers seem to think we go into desperation mode if an item doesn't sell.
It's just becoming a bit annoying. Once upon a time, in the early days, I would politely respond and decline the offers! because I don't like being rude. Now though, I treat them with the contempt they deserve and ignore them. Their offer is rude. Too much time wasting when you are busy.
Perhaps they score more often than I give them credit for. They've certainly got some front and must be watching things very closely.

I'd have put that one on the block, digi. She sounds like trouble and now she'd have your item and there is no way you can prove that.
When they sound too much trouble to maintain, they usually are.

Unfortunately the site where this occurred doesn't have the option to block individual members from purchase (you can cancel a transaction for any reason whatsoever, though, without any penalty - feedback is even blocked if it's done correctly).
I followed through with the sale, though (it was over a year ago, and I didn't experience any problems so all's well that ends well this time).
It's funny, but because a lot of US buyers don't look where the item is shipping from, I frequently get messages like "why is your postage so high?" (is USD$3-something really that high if they believe it's a domestic postage option o.O ).
I also get this one a lot - "every time I add another item to the cart, the postage goes up, can you do something to fix this?"....not unless Aus Post stop charging more for higher weights.

sure i say, let me know which ones you want so i can weigh them then i'll get you a price.
last night i get a reply with a list of items.
so i get them out, weigh them, do the calculations. send the price, items including postage.
if hes happy i'll relist them as a single item at the price.
about an hour later i get a 'yes, that is fine' thank you.
so i relist the items and message him. giving him the listing title just to make finding it easy.
then nothing, they havent even been viewed.
Similar story here, happened a couple of times, asked about combined postage, how much would it cost. I combined them, weighed them, checked the cost, worked out they would end up getting the postage of four at half the original postage cost. Informed them, Then NOTHING, not a peep out of them. I'm not doing that anymore. I offer combined postage in my listings. Sometimes the second item travels for free, sometimes, it may be a small reduction in the postage, as most sellers would know. I am just going to say " combined postage should work out cheaper, but not always, I cannot tell you exactly until you commit to buy the items" Maybe these people are just tyre kickers, like the ones who spend weekends looking at cars, caravans, display homes, boats etc. without the funds or means to buy anything, or maybe they think the postage cost will drop away to $0

I wouldn't give up just yet. Not everyone has a smart phone and is on the net 24/7.
He might buy tonight after work.
He took 2 days to reply to your first message so he might take similar to buy.
Although-if I had seen a message like that from a seller, I would make it my business to get online at least within the next 24 hours.
You'll soon know, I suppose.

i replied to his list of items about 30 minutes after i got it, he then replied with the 'yes, thants fine' about an hour later, i relisted the items and messaged him about 15 minutes later.
