Slow & Rude Payer

I have sold a water damaged iPhone 4s that I had used as a parts donor at the starting bid of $20 + $8.50 post four days ago (Friday 11th). I sent the buyer a payment reminder a day after the listing ended as I wanted to ship it out on Monday along with other items at the same time. (It is a 20km/12.5mile round trip to the post office).

This is the response I got: I have 3 days don't be pushy

I know I was probably being a bit pushy but certainly didn't expect such a response! (Normally buyers pay within 12 hours)

The buyer only has two positive feedback scores. I thought I had enabled buyer restrictions on the listing but that may not have been the case.

Now that it is four days without payment, what is the best way to deal with this customer without them turning and destroying my eBay reputation. What if he recieves the item and starts a case arguing it is not as described etc? My description was very clear.

It is surprising it has to take so long to pay for an item you intend to purchase.

Ideally, I would like to cancel the purchase and consider hanging onto it as I don't want to sell it just to have my eBay reputation destroyed.

What are your thoughts and what are the options I can legally take through eBay?

Why hasn't ebay credited you the final value fee for your listing?

Otherwise, it is all good. I get the feeling the buyer ( if he paid at all and that is by no means certain)  would have let you open an unpaid item case, waited till the last second of his 4 day period of grace to pay, just to irritate you, then given you a neg.

Try not to stress too much about things that may never happen, especially now that you can see they DIDN'T happen. Worry is today's mouse eating tomorrow's cheese. Worry is like a rocking chair - a lot of movement but it doesn't get you anywhere.

I know it's irrelevant to this transaction, but if you're going to open an unpaid dispute, try and time it so that you're not forced to make a special trip to the PO if they do pay on the last day, or just before.

Just because a person might appear a bit aggressive or nasty doesn't automatically mean they'll leave a negative. In your case, if the transaction hadn't been cancelled by ebay I would have just gone ahead as normal and hoped for the best.

All this buyer did was use a swear word when they said they've got four days. Most people here think nothing of swearing so I don't know why the buyer is suddenly a monster for what they said. If someone was hassling me for payment the next day I'd be tempted to respond in kind, so I don't know what the crime is there either.

lrtmms, I have no idea whether there's a market for what you're selling but there's no point in selling at a loss so just hang out for your price. A lot of things are listed a long time before they sell. I'd imagine most people just want the latest and fanciest phone or gadgets these days, and a lot of people who don't will often get their kids' hand-me-downs when they upgrade. I can't see too many wanting to buy non-working phones but I could be wrong.

Re: Slow & Rude Payer

I thought it looked like a scam account with those items for sale and the pics didn't look right.

Possibly even stolen items and one of the original owners has spotted their item then reported.

Even their 9 "sold" items have been removed now,(that would mean that if buyers paid via PP they would've

been refunded).

How can you see their sold items? Every time I looked the feedback grew and then dropped the next time. Really really dodgy. I want to convert everything to immediate pay BIN as I don't want them to revenge buy using a new username.

Yes I agree. What concerned me was how they said they had 3 days and when I messaged them on day 4 they were still thinking I was being pushy! I'm pleased eBay shut him down before the items that were for sale had been sold. When my item was bid on, they only had 1 item for sale. Today there was 4 items for sale.

I don't swear and wouldn't expect someone to do so when they told the seller that they had 3 days but still didn't pay in 5 days.

I always pay within an hour if I bid on anything as I have made a decision to buy it and have also made sure I can afford it.

Some of the old stock parts I have sold have usually been listed for two years before they sell.

I had thought of buying some repairable phones that need new screens or batteries and then repairing to sell on. However, the one I was selling I bought as it was listed as 'no longer charging'. It turned out to be water damaged so hadn't just stopped charging!

Re: Slow & Rude Payer

Probably waited for one of their sold items payments to clear to pay for another item they were going to use for a multiple scam sales.

To see a sellers sold items just bring up the items they have for sale and on the left hand side there is the

option Sold items.

Nothing will show on their account now as all their items have been removed.

Yes everything has gone now. However, I couldn't see what they had sold before they had their account removed. Is there a way to tell if another user is following you?
