I had a return buyer ask me to hold an item she purchased until she made another purchase next week, to save on postage.
She paid for the item, and I was concerned that by holding it well beyond my handling time I might receive an auto defect by ebay for slow postage time (I seem to hear mixed reports as to whether this happens, does it only happen on the US site or only happen for people offering same day postage or something?) So I went to my ebay page and clicked 'unmark as payment recieved' (and notified the buyer it may come up as unpaid on their purchase history and why)
Then it occured to me. What stops a seller from selling items, having them paid for, then marking them unpaid and opened unpaid item disputes for them all. Either they don't pay and he keeps their original payment and the item, or if they are newer buyers they pay a second time. As convenient as it was to be able to mark as unpaid this time, why am I allowed to do this! Seems like a huge opening for scamming right there.

Wouldn't it have been easier to just mark it as Posted? Letting her know that you have done so to clear your boards, and the email she'd receive was automatically generated, and that you were holding it for her to post when she was ready.

I had a buyer pay for an item and then message me saying she was interested in other auctions,(I messaged
the buyer to ignore any reminders that they may receive).
She ended up buying other items in the next two weeks.
I've received no defects of any sort.

Normally if a buyer pays, then I offer to hold off as I can see they've bid on more stuff, I tell them that I will mark it as posted, but attach a note to the listing saying it hasn't yet been posted. The last couple of times I forgot to mark as posted and it got posted 7-10 days after payment. I never received any defects.
I think the defects might come if the buyer trashes your stars for postage time?
