Stupid buyer or stupid seller? (me)

Sold a pair of linen shorts retail$25 nwt , sold for $9 .. quite cheap as postage as we know is horrific.. charged $7.50 post...

after a week I get a return request.. I responded that it might not be worth returning them, as the postage to return would cost pretty must the same price as the refund.. but the shorts showed up today.. in a satchel that would have cost $8+ so I refunded the $9.... not sitting comfortably with this... feeling that the buyer might be shocked... not understanding the postage costs are on the buyer.. Or am I wrong?? was I supposed to refund the postage too? My refund policy says full refund only if item defective, she returned shorts because they were too small... hope i am not in for bad feedback!

It sounds like you tried to make it clear to them prior to the return that a refund is for the item price only, which they may well have been aware of or at least accepted. Sometimes people can get postage products or services (honestly or dishonestly Smiley Surprised ) from their workplace, but even if not occasionally people will do stuff like this just because they can't think of, or can't be bothered with, any of the alternatives. (I've had people return low value items too, and in the end they get back $1-$2 of their money spent after postage both ways, I've not had anyone query the refund amount or leave me bad FB about it so far, at any rate).

For change of mind (incorrect choice) I would only refund purchase price!

Agree with designers, change of mind, they pay.

Faulty item, I pay everything.

Simples.

I had this happen. They returned an item and purchased a larger size.

So paid 3 lots of postage. 1st purchase, then return, then second item.

Would of been more value for the buyer to actually put up the first item on ebay to re-sell.

It was their choice and they seemed quite happy doing it that way......

I had a buyer contact me yesterday, apologising profusely for complaining, but they weren't happy with the item they'd bought. I gave them 2 options. Return for a full refund including postage both ways. I even offered to pay for the padded bag to return it. Other option was a partial refund and keep it. They opted for the partial. They were over the moon with their $5 refund and gave me awesome feedback.

If they'd contacted me saying they had changed their mind for whatever the reason, then it would have been up to them to return it and only get a refund for the purchase price.
